I have regular massages, including chinese reflexology foot massages. I tell them I'm pregnant and ask them to go gently. I also ask them to avoid the placest that stimulate the uterous - the heel and ankle area... But damned if I'm giving up my massages!! I've reached 5 months with no adverse effects...

Hi Bluey
I went to Happy Foot regularly throughout both my pregnancies and like firsttimemom made sure the girls knew to take it easy. They were wonderful and I found the massage helped both to give me energy and a good night's sleep. Enjoy!

I was also told not to have foot massages. Some places won't even do if they know your pregnant. I also had to see a food dr and he was actually a western guy and he also said to avoid them but it's really comes down to what you feel comfortable with.

I had bleeding after a massage in the first trimester(I told the girl I was pg) and was in the hospital for 2 weeks.

I have regular chinese foot massages. If they come anywhere NEAR my heel or ankle I tell them in no uncertain terms to stop. Those are the areas for the uterus and stimulation can cause contractions. I guess its just a question of moderation and not touching the trigger points. Luckily everyone I've had so far knows how to massage a pregnant woman.

I am trained in reflexology and massage for pregnant women (UK trained). The reflexology I do is very gentle, relaxing, therapeutic and safe. I do a full consultation before any treatment and request permission from doctor/midwife. I work at 'the firm' (tel: 2525 6696, ask for Felicity) and we are introducing a new treatment that is a facial and reflexology at the same time - a fantastically relaxing experience!
