Dear all, I think I will need some dental work done while pregnant. I have a crown that has become loose and it starts to hurt when I chew. I think I will definitely require anaethetics for this job.
My GynOb says it's okay to do it anytime and with anaethetics, just avoid the X-rays. But I am concerned whether this advice is correct as my dentist seems to think I should wait till I am in my 2nd trimester.
Appreciate your advice.
Sunny

When it comes to medication and pregnancy, there is a balance between the level of pain and the risk of the medicine.
If you are in serious pain and it is effecting your ability to chew and eat - then get this done soon, as your discomfort and pain is a negative influence on the pregnancy, and your OBGYN said it was okay (remember, they are the expert)
If the pain is not so bad, then wait for the 2nd trimester as per your dentists advice. The Dentist is not an expert and you will find all non OBGYN medical experts are 'afraid' of working on pregnant women and err on the side of caution.
In either case, no x-rays.
good luck and feel better soon.

Thanks for your advice, crj! I am gonna wait till I am in my 2nd trimester (in about 2/3 weeks time) and get it sorted! I think I can stand this discomfort/pain for a few more weeks. Mothers can sacrifice anything for their babies, can't we? haha.
