We got pregnant first shot when started to try for our first, and now that we wish to be pregnant with our second it aint happening! Have been trying now at 'the right time' for 7 mths and considering getting 'checked out' to see that there aren't any minor problems that could be preventing our chances. We are very relaxed about it all, however when you wish to have your kids relatively close together then every mth that passes becomes a bummer! Can anyone help with suggestions on who I could see and what is involved...?

I've been exactly where you are--pregnant the first mo with my first, pregnant again the first month we tried with a second and miscarried, and then...nothing.
It was helpful for us to get checked and I wish we'd done so sooner as any addressable issues on the male side take 3+ mo to sort out (sperm development cycle). Also, remember it's not just important to "time it right", but you ought to be having sex every 3-5 days ongoing, much much better for sperm health.
Anyway, for doctors, I think the two big private names in town are Dr Alex Doo at the Women's Clinic (2523-3007) and Dr Phillip Ho at Well Women Health Clinic (2899-2293). They both have very good results though I seem to see Dr Ho's name come up more often in these threads.
There are two things they'll do first, monitor you for a cycle--blood tests to check hormone levels and scans to see follicle growth--and do a semen analysis for your husband. Next steps have to do with results of the first, but you're probably looking at at least a couple of tries with IUI so hopefully hubbies travel schedule will cooperate.
Call as soon as you get your period as they need to see you first on day 3 of your cycle.
Good Luck with it all...

IUI stands for intrauterine insemination, a treatment for some forms of infertility. The procedure involves passing a very thin flexible catheter through the cervix and injecting washed sperm directly into the uterus.

wouldn't they look at your tubes before IUI procedure to check for any blockages etc? Is is this a common practice in HK?
Please support our advertisers:
Sorry, yes, at least in my case they did. He didn't expect a blockage because I'd been pregnant just a year ago, and there wasn't. But still, it's an inexpensive proceedure and better to be sure. (I'm not sure "looking" is enough, in my case I had the "flushing" procedure.)

so are Dr Ho and Dr Doo the men to see here in HK for general check up before considering other procedures?

I've not heard of this procedure before. We're trying for our first (at 35) & would like to be pregnant as soon as possible - is this procedure recommended as an option if we're not pregnant 'naturally' within 3 months?

Gabriella, probably most doctors would suggest at your age that you try for 6 months (at least) before taking any action. But checking if tubes are blocked is a pretty routine proceedure I think.
Having done both--natural and fertility intervention--natural is far more fun and intervention seemed invasive (to me). You'd probably get on hormones pretty quickly too and none of that is so pleasant.
But, that being said, if you have any concerns at all, talk with a fertility doctor, either Dr Ho or Dr Doo would good.
Of course you're using ovulation test sticks and/or checking your BBT.....

have a feeling that I was pregnant twice over the past 8 mths but failed to implant (both times bleeding occured for a day or so a week prior to my period - which has never occured before)The period I am having at the moment is most unusal for me - am on day 7, which I have also NEVER has a period of this length - 4 days, and a 30 day cycle to the book.
Thinking that possibly I may need a D&C. Should this be the case when would they schedule it and can you start to try again?
tks

oooo Popsicle, I wouldnt willingly go for a D&C, unless my doctor absolutely recommended it, it is NOT a pleasant experience.
When I had my first m/c it lasted about 7 days, and trailed off stopped by itself. I know I ovulated two weeks later.

sure I know, I definitely do not wish for one - just seems as if something is not quite right in that department. Off to see dr as soon as I can. Assume Dr Doo and Dr Ho are just as good as each other by sounds of the thread

It may be a miscarriage popsicle...but not every miscarriage needs a D&C, and many times the early ones don't.
You should check with a doctor. They should be able to tell with a scan whether you're "clean" or if there's any residual material (if there was a m/c). They would also be able to see anything else (e.g. a polyp) that might be causing the irregularity you're experiencing.

thanks 'my thoughts' - I will wait for a few more months before taking any additional action. I am using ovulation sticks not BBT though (is that necessary as well?) I also went to the Webmd website and printed out the monthly ovulation chart - I think I have a 34 day cycle going from the fact that I cam off the pill last month then waited for 34 days. When I had my check up last month the the doctor said that my cycle might take a couple of months to revert to being normal - so who knows I might be a 32 day cycle this month.

Hi Gabriella--have you followed Well2's thread "normal for ppl to try so long"? A lot of people use BBT and there's a lot of helpful info and encouragement...I think over 300 people have responded over the last several months. Start at the top, it's a good read.
I've just been using ovulation test sticks too. They should be sufficient, but more expensive than buying a BBT thermometer and keeping a chart.
It probably will take a couple of months for your body to get back to normal. I'm quite sure I didn't even ovulate the month after I stopped the pill. But then I was pregnant the following month...who knows, it may be quicker than you think. Have fun with it all and good luck :-)
