At any Watsons or Mannings - if they are out of stock try another one - you will find them eventually. I tried lots of different types of tests and reccomend Clear Blue as the most reliable.

Yes - I have been using ClearBlue OPK's - but they are quite hard to find. The Mannings and Watsons I have bought them from only seem to have 1. An alternative is 'Dot' - think that's right, they come in an orange box of 5 (I think).

Perhaps if you ask they have more in storage. I know Mannings on Robinson Road only kept one packet on the shelf but if I asked I could get as many packets as they had.

arhhh that would be it :) I have only bought 1 at a time.

On another note I used the Webmd.com ovulation calender + the OPK's this month - actually started using the OPK's 5 days before the calender said and glad I did as I ovulated 3 days earlier than the calender stated. If I had been waiting till the date advised I probably would have missed this months ovulation.

right - and where would I get one of those then?

I am using fertility friend and only the chart - perhaps I need one of these as well? Any particular brand?

ClearBlue does OPK's and they are available at Watsons and Mannings.

I charted my ovul. based on my last cycle using the webmd ovul. calender. As I said earlier I am glad I started testing a few days before I was supposedly fertile because otherwise we would have been outside of the date.

The OPK's are 99% accurate - so when there is a surge in your LH (24 -36 hours prior to ovulation) the test detects it. If I had waited for the calender / chart date I would have been 5 days out. LH surges apparently happen between 10 & 17 days prior to a period not just 14.

Also the 'dot' brand I mentioned earlier sells their OPK's with a free pregnancy kit.

I understand though that the ClearBlue preg + OPK's are better.

Sorry - I only learnt about LH recently, not sure if you are in the same boat. But it's the luteinizing hormone which surges just before your ovul. if you've got a double line from the test - the most fertile time is over the next 24 hours.

Just curious... so would you be able to calculate whether it will likely be a boy or a girl with the help of the OPK?

It is only to tell you when you are ovulating so wouldn't even tell you that you are pregnant!

I know I know... but people said if you have sex right on the day of ovulation, it's likely to be a boy coz the 'male' sperm swims faster than 'female' sperms. And if you do that before ovulation it's likely a girl coz by the time the egg rolls out, the 'male' sperms would have died, leaving the 'female' ones behind. Sorry I don't have more 'professional' words in mind :P

ah, I see where u are coming from now. The OPK which I used said ovulation will occur anytime within 48 hours from that point and we were pretty 'active' needless to say from that point! Therefore you would have no idea if it hit straight away or later since you don't know the exact ovulation time. Perhaps if you just had sex once during that period with an aim to go with the fast/slow sperm theory then it might work. I think you can get 24hour OPK's but not sure!

Thanks Loulu. That's interesting. My friend is planning a baby and she desperately wishes to have a boy, so she told me about her plan to use the OPK. Don't know if this works for her though =)
