Im having a terrible time at the moment with Mosquetoe and midge bites, Im covered in them. I do all the things necessary -natural repellant, burning candles, patches etc. Can I take antihistamines?. Im 34 weeks pregnant, I have heard Benadryl is safe any suggestions, THANKS

Talk to your doctor.
I took CMT or CTM (I can never remember) and it was safe during pregnancy.

We are very concerned about ANY medication during pregnancy, as much because of what we dont know than what we do know. We are particularly worried in the first 3 months when the organs are forming and the last few weeks as we dont want the baby to have a 'habit' for any medication. Having said that anti-hists have been around for over half a century with no known major problem.
And what about trying to stop being bitten?

Thanks for the replys guys. Dr M: I really do try my very best not to be bitten. Im not using my usual repellant which is brilliant cause of the deet content. Im only using natural stuff as well as burning citronella candles, using citronella patches and I have a sound mossie buzzer too and Im still getting bitten by the buggers, I also have an allergy to the bites. We have the windows and doors closed all day and night and just have aircon and fans going. I still need to go out and the balcony door opens occasionally, thats when the mossies must come in I guess. I just thought the antihistamines would make it a bit more bearable.

when was pregnant i was told i could use piriton - couldn't remember the dosage allowed but it helped me deal with the hayfever back in the uk. you should ask your doctor.

I can swear by a dab of tea-tree ointment (its much milder than pure teatree oil), or tea-tree oil mixed with vit E.
First of all it disuades anything from biting you, but it also calms the bite after the fact. I reckon its far more effective than citronella.

My doctor told me Piriton is safe during pregnancy. I used it twice for insomnia as it makes you feel drowsy.
Better ask your doctor of course
