Hello ladies,
I'm now into my second trimester, everything seems fine, no morning sickness at all which i'm thankful.
But suddenly, i've got swollen, redish, bleeds easily gums, sometimes painful. I didn't have this issue before. Any recommendation what to do with it? I've seen the dentist and aside from brushing and flossing well, he just said gargle with salt and water solution.
I'm taking high calcium milk, cheese, yogurt for my Calcium. Squeezing two orange for Vitamin C and other fruits everyday. Please help!!!
Thanks.........

common side effect of pregnancy - more blood in your system and so it sort of goes everywhere. Double check with your dentist to make you sure you don't have any sort of gum disesase, (he didn't seem to be worried?) and otherwise chalk it up to another wonderful benefit of almost being a mom. I think people call it "pink toothbrush" or something like that. (It's in the What to Expect When You're Expecting book.)

Unfortunately there's not much else you can do other than brushing and flossing really well morning and evening. If brushing is painfull, use a soft brush, but persevre with the brushing even if the gums bleed otherwise the situation will get worse. Yes also gargle with warm salt water too. It will get better GOOD LUCK

Thanks for your replies. The dentist seems not to be worried as he might seen a lot of cases as mine. The only thing he's excited about is his guess that it's a boy ;-) He said most of his patients who has gum problem while preggy is carrying a boy. Well, that's the least of my concern now, girl or boy is okay. I'm more concern of this gum problem.

Honeypie do you know if baby is a boy or girl by now? You should be in Week 16/ 17 if my memory is correct?
I also have bleeding problem even when I floss, but not too serious. What I did have was sensitive teeth earlier on (I don't know if it's sthg to do with preggy though), and I started using Sensodyne. It works very well. Unfortunately it doesn't help much in the bleeding. Maybe as hkchoichoi said, it's a common side effect coz blood now goes everywhere. So unless it bleeds non-stop, we should treat it normal.

Hi Nicher,
Mine is boy, dentist is right ;-)
How many weeks are you now? do you know the gender?
Hey, i like to use pyodontil for gum toothpaste, but dentist said i better rinse it well as it's medicated toothpaste, it might be the same as sensodyne, rinse and gargle well.

Oh congrats honeypie! So you are going to have a little boy!
Week 16 for me tomorrow =) So ours should be pretty close. Will know baby's sex when I have a check up tomorrow. I don't have a preference myself coz it's not going to be my only child anyway. Everybody already guesses that it's a boy, coz I keeping growing small pimples on the face. Fortunately just a few at a time...

Hi Honeypie,
Exactly the same case for me. Forehead and jaw, and one or two on the right cheek. Keep growing... I hope we don't have swollen nose, coz some people told me that for moms carrying a boy, the nose grows bigger... I hope my nose won't grow into a strawberry!!!

Hi nicher,
have you find out if you're carrying a boy?

Hi Honeypie, yes bingo! It's a boy!
Can't believe I'm already half way through now!
I also have this pink toothbrush problem, but only on the right side.

Hi Nicher,
That's great!!! I knew it's a boy too.
My pimples are gone, but my gum problem (on one tooth only) is still here, have to go back to the dentist if it's swollen as he has to clean it before it gets pus. The area of my gum there has "dirt" deposit, he can't do anything except clean it. Wonder if i brush the wrong way.
Anyways, do you have a good dentist?

Hi Honeypie,
My pimples are gone too! I guess we are adjusted to the hormonal changes =)
Unfortunately I don't have dentist referral. I won't plan for a trip to the dentist as long as it's just mere bleed. I floss after each meal and I find it quite efficient. Do you floss and rinse well as your dentist advises?
Please support our advertisers:
yes, i do, but sometimes i skip floss as it bleeds ;-) i have to do it regularly.
I know i've asked you this? but my memory is poor, how many weeks are you now? i'm on my 21w, i know we're close.
