any ladies out there who can tell me your experience of rushing to the hospital once labour starts? I'm at 23weeks now and afraid of that delivery time when u have to rush to the hospital. Most of my girlfriends had scheduled C-sections and induced deliveries so they didn't have this concern.

If this really is a concern perhaps you could consider staying in accommodation on site at the hospital a few days before your due date - specially for those who live a distance away, family welcome. Information and pictures on our website.

This is a huge problen with mothers who have had many births, every Obstetrician and midwife, has unbelievable stories about mothers having their eighth baby who deliver in the elevator, in the parking lot etc. With first or second babies this is rarely a factor

I had a natural birth with my first. I lost my mucous plug on a Saturday morning, and then worked out gently with the thought that I could stimulate labor.
I woke up very early Sunday morning with contractions and got the whole family up. We were waiting for something more dramatic - water breaking but nothing happened. So then we waited for the contractions to increase and become five minutes apart. Once they were five minutes apart we set out for Queen Mary. In the cab, I noticed the contractions weakeneing...
I checked in - and I was barely dilated. They did ask me when I lost my mucous plug and why I hadn't gone to the hospital earlier - (after the mucous plug had been lost.) I just mentioned that I wanted to have most of my labor in the comfort of my home. To make a long story short - it took a LONG time (36 hours total) for me to actually have the baby. I was in the hospital waiting for 24 hours before I gave birth. I wouldn't worry too much.

My waters broke for my first child and I went straight to the hospital (nervous first timer) and contractions didn't really start until 3 hours later and delivered about 5 hours later.
I saw blood for my second baby and just potted around for 3 more hours at home until I felt slight contractions and then went to hospital and delivered about 6 hours later.
As hkchoichoi mentioned, you really shouldn't worry too much.

If you take an antenatal class (recommend Hulda's class at Annerly Midwives) she'll tell you WHEN to rush to the hospital. Water breaks, blood, contractions - they'll help you with your questions.
