Massage during pregnancy

ORIGINAL POST

I'll be on holiday for the next 2 weeks and plan on taking it easy & pampering myself with a couple of massages while at the resort.

I've alreay got a list of massage oils I should stay away from...but i doubt the resort has a therapist who specializes in massage for pregnant ladies.

Any type of massage technique I should definately stay away from, or specifically request?

If you're more than three months (even if you're not "showing") you should lie only on your back and side for massage - not on your tummy (unless they have a special pregnancy massage bed with a hole cut out for your tummy). Any experienced masseuse should know about special techniques in pregnancy. A good friend who is very experienced (but who sadly no longer practises, as she now makes a lot more from writing children's stories!) says that all oils (even olive oil and "base" almond oil) should be avoided in pregnancy. However, as you've probably discovered from google searches, everyone has a different take on that.
