Birth in Shanghai

I am considering going through my pregnancy and birth in Shanghai. This is my second, and I want to ask around about all the dos and don'ts of pregnancy healthcare and delivery in Shanghai. Anyone who can share them with me? Any good hosptial to recommend? I don't have to go to "expat" hospitals as I speak Chinese, and would be reluctant to pay "expat" price just for English-speaking services.

Hi Shmaks,

You can check out Hong Fangzhi Hospital. It is one of the best O&G hospital in Shanghai. It has rated no.1 in ultrasound for the past 3-4years.

The doctors there speak English as well but be prepared to wait as all public hospitals are the same.

Hope the info helps.

Regards

Hi Shmaks and Frosties

I am 10 weeks pregnant and presently with a expat hospital. But it is turning out to be too expensive and my insurance limit is very less. Do you know of any good local hospitals where the doctors speak english,(I am from India) and is close to my home in Pudong.Where is Hong Fangzhi hospital located?

Hi. Where did you go through your first pregnancy? Would you recommend a person who has been living in Shanghai for less than a year to have her first baby in China?

Well, I had my first baby in Canada. I just went for my first checkup in the First Maternity Hospital on Chang Le Lu, and it is really not bad. I would say, if you have your baby in Shanghai, go for the expat wards (and the "special need" outpatient services) in any major hospital should be okay.
