Pregnancy Yoga

Does anyone know if there are pregrancy yoga classes available in Discovery Bay? I understand Pure Yoga and Planet Yoga both offer pregnancy yoga classes in Central; but I prefer to do the classes in DB if possible.

By the way, has anyone tried pregnancy yoga? If so, do you find it helpful? I am 6 months pregnant and would like to take on some exercises. I used to work out at the gym but I have stopped ever since I got pregnant =P

Many thanks!

I don't know about classes on DB, but I am a huge fan of pregnancy yoga. I've been doing it throughout my pregnancy and I am convinced that it is a large part of the reason I haven't experienced any backache to date (I'm 34 weeks!). it has also calmed me and made me feel more flexible and supple. Definitely go for it, I'd say.

I go to Yoga Central: http://www.yogacentral.com.hk The pregnancy class is on Fridays from 12:15 to 1:30pm. Can't say enough good things about it.

Thanks mayafox,

I've checked the website but it's better to ask you as you've been there.

How much is it - $120 per class? Can i just pay per class basis?

Is it suitable for beginners, or it's an advance class? I want something for relaxation and just simple stretching, and no "risky" poses.

Is there a schedule for beginners or it is a continous class?

Hi Honeypie,

The pregnancy class is 1 1/4 hours long, and costs $140 per class. You can pay at the end of each class, or you can pre-pay for 4 classes in advance, in which case you would get a discount (about $120 per class).

The pregnancy class is definitely suitable for beginners. I usually go to the intermediate class, and found the preg. class a little slow at first, but as I got heavier and more cumbersome (I'm 34 weeks now) just stretching and holding poses for an hour-and-a-quarter is exactly what I want to do. The class is very gentle, and definitely no risky poses. Robin, who runs the class had a baby of her own only two years ago, so she is very informed about what is and isn't suitable at different stages of pregnancy. The class is really friendly and there is no pressure to do anything you do not feel comfortable with.

The preg. class is continuous and each week we do different variations and poses, so whilst you do accumulate knowledge and experience, it is not really necessary to 'know what you are doing'. Each pose is guided and demonstrated, and the class is small enough so that you get lots of individual attention if you need it.

Hope this helps and do let me know if you need any more info.

thanks mayafox,

I'll see you next Friday. I'll try it out.

There's also one pregnancy yoga class in another famous school, but the schedule is only night time, around 6-7pm, so i don't like it. But this one is lunch time, i'll be hungry after the class ;-)

See you on Friday, Honeypie! Hope you enjoy the class. Can you tell me which studio runs the evening class you mentioned? A friend of mine is looking to do some preg. yoga too but can't make it to Central at lunchtimes.

Wish I could join you, I'm in Guangzhou. Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy Yoga/Pilates DVD (and where to buy it) so I can at least do something from my home? Thanks very much. A friend said that prenatal yoga really helped her through labor, and she started her yoga classes as early as 12 weeks. Now that's dedication!
