Coming off the pill

ORIGINAL POST

Hi

I know there have been a few threads here on similar topics before. A friend of mine is looking to try for a baby at the end of the year and is off to see a doctor next week for a pre-check. She has asked around and received lots of different advice on how long you should be off the pill before you start trying. Any thoughts/experiences/advice? Also on vitamins - folic acid seems to be a highly recommended. Anything else other than a good womens multi vitamin?

About the pill, both myself and a friend got pregnant our first 1-2 months off the pill - so not everyone takes 3 or 6 months!

Generally nature takes care of this and you do not get pg untill things are suitable. BUT there seems to be a higher m'carriage rate in mothers who do get pog in the first month, probably because the endometrium has not returned to its normal thickness. So, come off the pill, at the end of the pack, of course, and then use non-interventionistic contraception, usually a condom, until you have had the post-pill period and two more.

Thanks everyone - I'll let my friend know. She was thinking that there might be a recommended "safe" waiting period between finishing the pill and starting to try. She can discuss with her doctor next week in more detail but good to have an indication of 2 months or so.

i came off the pill after being on it around 15 yrs straight. I was pregnant within 2 wks and had a beautiful healthy baby boy 7 months ago. Tell your friend not to worry to much and to just go with the flow.

Theoretically, there are no fixed time to try

conception after coming off the pill.

In fact, occasionally some women do get pregnant when they missed their pill, with no subsequent side effect.

Women planning to get pregnant should take folic acid, before and during early pregnancy to lower the risk of fetal abnormality.

Tell your friend to get her imunity check for rubela. If her's is low or not there at all she should get a rubela shot. f she gets the shot she will need to wait three months beofre trying to get preg.
