Hi ladies, the fertility centre in QMH has public and private services for IVF.
The charge for public is on http://www.hku.hk/obsgyn/IVF/html_eng/pictures/App10_1.pdf
The charge for private is on http://www.hku.hk/obsgyn/IVF/html_eng/pictures/App10_2.pdf
You have to check whether you are can use the public service. The public service is cheaper but there is a waiting list of a few months to a year and you cannot choose the doctor. I think The expenses is about 1/4 to 1/5 the cost of private service.
I went for private service and paid about HK$50,000 to HK$60,000 for my first IVF. I was not pregnant in the first IVF cycle.
I have some frozen embryos, so I sent for FET (frozen embryo transfer) and got pregnant in my first FET cycle. I paid about HK$10,000 to HK$15,000 for it. I have forgotten the exact figure.
I know that not all embries can survive the thawing process in FET, all my embries survived the thawing. The professionism of IVF clinic is highly relevant. I think the embryo lab. in QMH is very good in terms of the result they delivered, e.g. in thawing the embries, ICSI, etc. They have a lot of cases and therefore very experienced.
I am very grateful that I went right straight to QMH.
After watching a lot of programs about IVF in the Home & Health channel of the Discovery Channel of Cable TV and read the experiences shared by those who have gone through IVF in the Message Board of
www.ivf-infertility.com
I understand that the treatment that I have recevied in QMH was among the top is the world.

Yea, about the time frame.
There was no waiting time for private service. I only needed to make an appointment to see the particular doctor that I wanted to handle my case. I needed to match his schedule.
There are some tests which need to be done, e.g. semen, blood tests. After the result has come and the doctor is satisfied that we were suitable for IVF ( some may do a few cycle of IUI before IVF), I started the nasal spray at a particular day of my next M cycle. About 20+ days later, I had M flow. A few days later, I visited the clinic and started daily hormone injection to stimulate the ovaries to produce more eggs. After about 10+ days of injections, I went back for egg collection. Husband needed to give his sperm on the same day. The lab. fertilized the eggs and after 2 days, 2 embries were put back.
So I think it wouldbe about 2 months between the first visit and putting back the embryo normally.

I felt no pain for egg retrieval/collection.
You will be sedated in the process.
Although I was conscious throughout, I was like dreaming. I closed my eyes and the process seemed very fast. In fact it was about 30 minutes. I have a friend who did feel some pain in the process. Another friend told me that she did not feel any pain. Don't worry, you should be fine.

Hi Simplewife, Please keep positive. Many got pregnant in their first cycle. Of course, it very much depends on individual conditions. Younger women have better chance of success.
If you look at the success rate that we have for July, it beats the odds! http://www.ivf-infertility.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8637&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=150
About 70% so far in July, usually the success rate is about 30%.
Hope you will have a smooth IVF process and be a mother soon!!
