What insurance?

i thought that alliance was the best insurance for maternity but have just found out that it only covers up to US$10,000 for maternity on the elite plan. from what i have been reading on this forum this amount might not be enough for a delivery at matilda. what insurance companies have others used?

This amount should cover the hospital charges but it will also depend what your obstetrician will charge. Our prices are listed on the webisite or you can call if you have any other questions.

We delivered at Matilda, had a private room, vaginal birth with vacuum at the end.

The total cost (matilda, doctors, etc...) was just over 100,000 HKD.

So while that amount covers Matilda fees, it does not cover all the doctors, medicines and everything else you are charged.

Also, what was fascinating, doctors charge MORE if you are in a private room! So if you go for a double or ward room, you actually get less fees from both the hospital and the doctor.

So you might want to look into ward room and ask your dr for his ward fees and plan on additional expenses that might come up. Or plan to suplement your insurance with your own money.

We have the Allianz international policy, it covered everything except husband's meals and internet.

i thought i had an international policy - it is valid everywhere except the usa and canada.

is there a huge difference in premiums between the asian and international policy?

The Asian policy is not just for use in Asia, it just has different benefit limits.

The premiums are listed on their website, personally I thought they were reasonable considering the coverage.

thanks for the help - just checked out their website.

if i change my allianz asia policy to a international policy (its coming up for renewal soon) would any medical conditions that have come up during the previous asia policy be covered under the new international one? would it be just like i had renewed my policy where they would be continue to be covered or would i be considered to be taking out a new policy and these things would be considered pre-existing conditions and so wouldn't be covered?

That is a really good question! I renewed my policy, but didn't chane any features, so I have no idea.

Maybe CHRISTIAN at Kwiksure can answer that one for you, or Allianz directly. (christian@kwiksure.com or call 3113 2112 and ask for Christian or Neil)

I hope it works out for you!
