Hi,
I am new here. I am around 20 weeks pregnant and just found out it is a good time to have a detailed ultrasound. However, the doctor I am seeing does not preformed the big ultrasound. Do you know any doctors that preformed the big ultrasound?
Thanks a lot,
I am based in Hong Kong

Dr Wan and Dr Lam are considered by some to be the most experienced in HK.
Dr Lam is our OBGYN and we love him, he delivered our baby and we think he is just wonderful. Now our friends go to him as well and thank us for the referral.
If you are flexible, you should get an appt within a week, but be prepared to wait in the waiting room for a while it is always busy.

Yes go to Dr Wan and Dr Lam, they are very experienced and they have good equipments. You can do a 4D scan with them too, best to do it between 26-28 weeks.

It's still way too early for a 4D scan - i'm only 15wks and 4days along.
But i was told that a doctor experienced with doing scans would be able to pick out any problems(if there are any) immediately

I did a NT Scan with Dr Lam at 12wks and a 4D Scan at 27wks. During the NT scan Dr Lam was very good he looked at my baby in every detail to make sure baby was fine and I could tell he's very experienced and detail minded. At 12 wks only Dr Lam was very confident about the gender of my baby even all I could see was just a tiny creature!

Is Dr Ho's scan good enough to detect any problems (if there are any)?

I used Dr Lam for our 12 week NT scan as well, he (and Dr Wan) are considered the best ultrasound readers in HK.
I have friends who's own OB's have referred them to that clinic (HK Prenatal Diagnostic Centre) for second opinions and further monitoring when scans in their own offices looked troubling.
Well2, I can't speak directly to your question (as I haven't successfully carried a pregnancy with Dr Ho) but I would count him extremely capable for all routine scans (including the heartbeat scan you're facing) and probably more. For me, I would consider going to Dr Lam for the two more critical scans, the 12 week nuchal translucency scan and the 20 week (or is it 22 week?) detailed ultrasound, and then otherwise only if there seemed to be a problem.

tks my thoughts. We saw a lovely heartbeat last week at Dr Hos office. Its really amazing!!! I almost cried haha. Baby measured 8w0d. :-)
My next appointment with Dr Ho will be next month at 12week. We will still go for the down test at Dr Hos, but think might be better having the 2 important scans (12w and 22w) at Dr Lams as suggested if his office is not too busy, like queuing up for more than 1 hr something like that...

Oh well2, you've brought tears to my eyes :-)
I suspect the Downs test you're referring to IS the Nuchal translucency scan, the one I had done by Dr Lam. Most OB's are doing this scan in their offices now. They measure the thickness of the nuchal fold at the back of the neck (thicker is an indicator for Downs), check the chambers of the heart (for congentital heart defects) and typically also send a blood test off to a lab in London for additional assurance about the indication for Downs.

yes. Dr Ho was saying somehting about measuring the back of the neck. Guess it's the one you are describing. If that is NT, then i will stick to Dr Ho and do the 20week detailed scan with Dr Lam then. Thanks for the tips :-)

Well2 - If you want to book with dr Lam's office i suggest that you book for 10am - and then get there about 20 minutes before so you're among the first to arrive. I think you might have to do the scan with Dr Wan if you go in the morning though. Their office is ALWAYS jampacked and overflowing.
Dr. Wan is also very very good. So no worries.
my thoughts - i think the blood is analysed locally - not sent to london. Not that it makes a big difference i think.

That's new then goddess kali, when we did this (4 yrs ago) our doctor didn't have confidence in the local labs for this test. Of course it makes sense a HK lab would have progressed in the interim.

I guess. I got the results back in about three days and then the doc sent me a scanned copy of the actual results. Definitely done in HK.
