i stopped breastfeeding very early on so i had my first post-natal period at about 6 weeks.

since then, i have it every month but for the first few months, it's been pretty heavy (pre-pregnancy, a few days and it would be gone). and now in my 6th month, i got it a couple of days ago and voila, it's been super light, even lighter than pre-pregnancy!

are erratic periods normal at this stage (baby is 6.5 months)? i did a post-natal pap smear and ultrasound in May - all was normal.

There are so many factors affecting ovulation, and thus regularity of periods and amount of bleeding. Looking after a newborn is stressful enough to affect hormonal cycles.

Periods usually return after 6 - 8 weeks post partum, once you stop breast feeding.

If the periods are regular, they are likely to be

ovulatory.

The amount of bleeding is not a reliable indicator of the wellness of the female organs.

Provided the bleeding is not too heavy, i suggest you observe the cycle for the time being. The body will usually find its own hormonal balance and the periods usually go back to normal.
