I am moving to HK and am 20 weeks Pregnant. Can anyone reccommend a good Doctor??

I will be having a c-section.I am a British citizen so it is important that they speak good English.

I was initially going to be looking at the Matilda but i hear they have no emergency facillties there so we are now thinking of the Aventis.Does anybody have any opions on this???

Hi, I would recommend Dr Joe Chan to you. Please see other threads. He is wonderful and should be able to help you. Good luck, his contact no. is 25233328.

I would add Dr Sally Ferguson (2824-9112) in Wanchai. She is English and was great all through our pregnancy and birth. But she delivers at Matilda, which might be a turn-off for you (don't know why - thousands of babies are born there, and it's the best in town). I recommend you have a look at some of the hospitals when you get here - most of them will give you a tour.

The best Drs are either Dr Philip HO (very good english) or Dr Lucy Lord (most western woman go to her).

Adventist is good. I had my son there adn was a C section.

Unless you go public (Queen Mary on HK Island) non of the maternity hospitals (Matilda and so on) have neo Natal care. If there is a problem, the baby goes to the public hospital. But if you have an emergency, you are fine at the private hospitals.

Whether The Matilda is the best in town or not is arguable, particularly considering their connection with a recent and rather large medical negligence claim...

Oh, and all the doctors in HK speak plenty of English - they might not have a great bedside manner, but there should be absolutely no communication problems no matter who you see.

MillieMc, I second Sally Ferguson (if you have insurance, or are prepared to pay for private treatment).

Geyboyi, sent you a PM.

It's a very personal choice but Dr Choy at Care for Women in Central (tel 3112 0480) is always very highly recommended by lots of people. I think she trained at Edinburgh University in the United Kingdom so her English is like a native English speaker.
