My husband and I are thinking of going the IVF route. Do you have any recommendations? We had a missed miscarriage last September and since that time we have been trying to get pregnant again but have not succeeded.

Recommended to try the UK where the success rate is significantly higher and cheaper

hello havefaith
i am so sorry to learn about your miscarriage, that's a toughie.
you miscarried in september, so ostensibly given the hormonal fluxes as your body regulated itself following the miscarriage, you could have had two regular cycles since that time? that you have not conceived during those cycles is extremely frustrating for you and your husband, but hopefully not cause to head towards ivf just yet. even with couples that have "regular" sperm counts and ovulatory patterns, clear tubes, nice uterine lining, etc, it is common to take up to six months to conceive.
if your age is a concern to you and you are at a risk of ovulatory failure or there are other issues affecting your fertility that you didn't list, possibly it is worth your time to consult a fertility doctor. however, if not, i would save the time, stress and money, educate yourself about your peak fertility times over the internet (or on this board, there are some very educated ladies here...check out some old threads on this board), save the money you would spend on an appointment with the fertility doctor on a ovulation kit, kick up your heels (literally) and try again.
one other things about ivf (and i apologise if you know alot about ivf and i sound condescending), while it does help couples GET pregnant, its success rates in helping couples stay pregnant is just the same, if not lower than couples who did not use assisted reproduction technology.
if you do decide to see a fertility dr. i would be happy to recommend one.
hope this helps, and good luck to you. xo abn.

Abitnaive,
I dont find you condescending at all. Your comments are very helpful and sincere. My husband and I had been trying for about 6 months before the M/C. I just turned 39 - a big age issue. I have read quite a few books about ovulation and fertility. I have a very regular cycle - 28 days and so figuring out when ovulation is has not been difficult. You are asolutely right - I have had 2 regular cycles since the M/C.
I would like to see a fertility doc - please recommend one to me. Thank you.

havefaith,
my husband and i used dr philip ho, and we found him excellent. he has an fantastic staff, and the fertility clinic he works out of (hk sanitorium) was top notch as well. (just as good as north american clinics with the best success rates).
he doesn't beat around the bush with your questions or answer you with confusing statistics or hypothetical situations, which is refreshing.

if you do a search on him on this board you can see others opinions of him as well. he is very well respected in the IF industry.
good luck to you, hope this helps.

Hi Folks
Can anybody tell me what are the costs involved in IV treatment in Hong Kong?
My wife and I have been trying for I think perhaps 9 months she is 36 with no luck as yet. She was on the pill for a long time before hand and initially her cycle was all over the place, probably for 4 months or so. It is regular now. I am thinking fertility tests may be appropriate at this time.
Any help much appreciated

Dear MrAlias,
We have just been quoted about HK$70K for IVF with Dr. Ho. It will depend on how much of the hormone drugs you need. It costs HK$5,000 for a bottle.
