Strollers and Maternity Bras

Hi

We are starting to look at strollers and like the look of the Quinny Buzz with the maxi cozi car seat for when the baby is small. My only concern (other than that the Buzz weighs 12 kgs) is that I have been told that a baby should not be in the car seat for long periods of time. Is that correct? If so, should we then be making sure that the stroller is flat like the Quinny? We were planning on using the car seat as the main means of transport until the baby is bigger and then change to the stroller attachment.

Also, in terms of maternity bras - when do people normally change from normal bras to maternity bras. I am still wearing my usual underwire ones (am 17 weeks along) but was concerned that underwires are not the best. If they are still comfortable for me, is there any concern to rush into maternity bras? Any recommendations for type - I have seen the ones at mothercare and M&S and none seem that pretty!

Thanks all

Thanks Joshmomm for the advice. I saw the recent thread on nursing bras but thought that they were different from maternity bras (how little I know!!). Pleased to hear that they sell maternity bras with underwires as I don't like the ones without either.

I was told that nursing bras with underwires were not so good for you - but I wore one with underwires for my first.

With my second, I tried the bRavado bras - and LOVED them. You can order them online - but they also have them at Bumps to babes. Very comfy, felt secure and supported - a bit like a sports bra with the flexibility to nurse.

well with my 1st, 2nd and now my 3rd i had to move into the nursing bras about 7 weeks along.... was awful. Problem is here in Shanghai you cant find foreign sized bras let alone nursing bras here so i had to ship them from america because most places dont like to ship to china.

Underwire bras are bad because they constrict the growing glands that produce milk. I didnt use underwire bras when i had the babies. i couldnt even use the nursing bras i bought when i was pregnant.

Anyway good luck!

Maternity/Nursing Bras - agree with all above and do check that other post.

Car Seats- you are correct, newborns and very young babies should not stay too long in the car seat (gererally not too much of an issue in HK!).

Prams - if you live in HK, you want something that is small, light weight, and easy to get up and down stairs and in and out of taxis/cars. The Maclaren Quest (does not lay flat, good for after 4-6 months) and Combi (lays flat) are popular for these reasons.

We used a sling and the car seat the first 6 months and got a Maclaren Quest after that.

Thanks for all your replies.

crj - I have looked at the Maclarens and also a friend has a Peg Perego (sp?) one that all look good and are lighter than the Quinny. Might need to have another look as we still have lots of time. Husband stuck on the stylish design of the Quinny (isn't it funny the things that they are most interested in? Men!)

I am also attaracted by Quinny product, my friend from Singapore using Quinny freestyle and my experience of handling it is quite stable but won't be convenient in Hong Kong for it's weight and the size.

I am wondering if I should get Quinny Zapp which is more compact and also Maxi-Cosi car sear attachable but I concern if the seat(after Maxi-Cosi) is confortable for baby or not...

Whitegold - we looked at the Quinny Zapp in Mothercare at Ocean Centre but it seemed quite flimsy and not stable. It is very light though. Another downside to the Zapp is that it only has one seat position.

I am thinking that we might take another look at the Peg Perego ones. Given the feedback we have had from friends that it is not good to leave the baby in the maxi cosi car seat for too long, I want to have a stroller that I can use from birth that goes flat as an alternative for longer walks etc.

I have bought the Quinny Zapp but have not used it yet since I am due early april. We also bought the Maxi cosi seat. Maybe because all of my friends have used it (maxi-cosi) and are happy with it I decided to take this option. I know the zapp has only one seating option but you will only start using this much later on. They do say that you can not keep the baby in the maxi-cosi for too many hours (not more then 2hrs or so)but that is only for the first few (3) months. After that it is OK. I do not expect to go on such long walk the first few months anyway. From experience from friends you do not have much time for this in the beginning....

Secondly I have seen kids sleeping in the quinny zap without any problem. Its a nice light and compact stroller and I like the combination with the maxi-cosi. Lot of other strollers have small wheels which can be quite flimsy and difficult to handle. Finally I like the design, simple with not to much fuss.

Thank you for all your replies.

Starbaucks 2, I agree with you that Zapp has only one seat position. Probably it would be perfect to go hiking with it once baby become 7-8 month old. I also want the seat goes flat and convertable from facing baby to behind style. I found APRICA products are quite functioning. Can be flat, convertable, concern about new born baby's breathing(so their car seat is also very flat...), wheels can turn 360 degree etc. But I don't think many shops sell their product in Hong Kong, I found one company sell on the web. But the price is good too.

Flower- You are right that we can't really take the baby out for long time at the begining. And convienient part is when baby fell in sleep in Maxi-Cosi (which probably they do)we don't need to wake him up to getting in the taxi or carrying back home... If you like good looking strollers I also found super good looking Xplory from Stokke. www.stokke.com

Good luck for all those looking for nursing bras - new company www.bralicious.com.hk has got a very cool brand of nursing bras - order online, got a good returns policy so no probs finding out you got the size wrong!! A friend in Bejing just ordered some so they post outside HK.. And they do decent sizes for normal bras for when you get back to underwires too!

Hello,

Babies should not sit up for more than 30 min at a time until they are able to sit by themselves since their back is not fully developed. Paediatric orthopaedics and physotherapist therefor recommend that you limit the time your baby spend in the car seat, sling/carrier etc especially the first first few months.

Hope this is helpful.
