No sperm found... what to do?

ORIGINAL POST

Finally, at 55, I am trying to have a baby. But after months without birth control, still no success. In three sperm collections at two hospitals, doctors found zero sperm... not even a few, not even a slow moving one. None.

We think it's highly likely that I have very healthy sperm somewhere, based on a very good blood test. We expect there is a block or a break in the tubing somewhere.

So now what to do. I've been offered scans looking for the block, and probes to extricate my sperm. Any advice. Who is the expert in this area. I'm in Shanghai.

Perhaps a touch of editing to avoid confusion as you begin your post with the comment "I am trying to have a baby". This is still a medical impossibility if you are a male.

LOL

Well him and his other half are trying to have a baby.. one cannot make a baby on oneself whether male or female.

I would say if you really want to have a child then you should at least try it. Make sure its a good hospital you know all the details involved, if you will be able to function normally with your male parts and if saving sperm is a choice in case you wish to have another child after this one.

Editing advice accepted. I and she have been trying to have a baby.

We have been considering using the services of Renji Hospital in Shanghai, first to determine if in fact I have sperm, using a needle to collect sperm directly from my testes (after three `natural' collections found no sperm in the semen.)

And then if there are sperm to see if there is a block or break that can be fixed.

My questions:

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of Renji Hospital's reputation on this?

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about the best procedure for removing sperm directly from the testes. If I do anything, I want to make sure the procedure is one that carries no side effects.

if googling or web md doesn't come up with some sufficient answers to your second question, i would suggest one of the below infertility websites:

www.ivfconnections.com

www.inciid.com

www.resolve.org

good luck
