I'm seeing a private doctor for pre-natal and have been booked for delivery at Canossa hospital. However after reviewing our financial records (no insurance coverage too) I think I should deliver in a public hospital to ease the financial burden on my husband! I've been told that if the 3-bedroom which I have booked is full upon my delivery date then I may be upgraded to semi-private which will be terrible financially for us. We can still afford private pre-natal visits till then. What I would like to know is how I go about doing this? I'm thinking of delivering at Queen Mary. Should I register at QM? Do I need to do also pre-natal check ups at Tsan Yuk too? And do you just show up at the hospital when your about due? Advise appreciated never been through this.

hi ninalee, to my understanding i think you do need to register at the QM first, unless you went there as an emergency i.e calling 999!

you need to register at TSan Yuk.
You will have to do the basic checkups there as well - start your file, get your records going.
IT is cheap though - you'll get delivered and food (although it is bad) and beds for your duration - under $500. (plus drugs too!)

I think you will need a reference letter from your doctor and you will need to attend the QM class there as well. You should check with your doctor to make sure that they are happy with this potential arrangement. I know my doctor charges differently depending on whether I am in a general ward, semiprivate or private ward at a private hospital, so assume that this might affect your doctor's delivery charges and hopefully bring it down a little which should also help financially.
