I am currently having IUI with Dr Ho and I am just rather concered that he is rushed and does not have time to discuss things properly. This is my 4th attempt at IUI and he seems competent and Kelly his nurse is super, but I do feel that more often than not, any questions I have are referred to Kelly and not him. He just seems harried and rushed all the time...I almost feel sorry for him that he seems so under stress and is taking too much on. He is clearly trying to fulfill fertility issue appointments-sometimes these are very prescribed and timed, whilst still having to leave and deliver babies. Is anyone else experiencing anything similar, should I move doctors or are all fertility docs overstretched and rushed????I am now getting stressed myself and feel I just need someone who can properly explain things and give me time to ask questions.

hi simplythebest, we have just decided to go ahead with dr.ho for ivf based on so many recommendations here. please advise me with your experience with him. its hard to find detailed objective information on dr's here. its all word of mouth- which is good but i would prefer to know both sides.
hoping - I understand completely what you are saying, my husband actually more than me gets narked with the same things as you. I have had 3 failed IUI's with Dr Ho. To be honest, I am not sure what could be different given the randomness of the timing of it all. 2 of my IUI's were performed on a Saturday which nobody wants - the surgery is packed with patients on general appointments as they work all week and anyone having IUI needs to hold onto the room to rest afterwards. My other IUI was performed on a bank holiday, what if he hadn't been willing to work that day?
I honestly don't know how he could manage his time to spend with patients - Other than having less patients generally but then that's probably not good business sense for him and after choosing to go to him I am not sure I would have liked being turned away! From my own research I think he is doing all he can for me (eggs getting to the required size and IUI well timed) but I just haven't got lucky yet.
Simplythebest - like 788 I chose Dr Ho based on here also so would be interested in your view.
I guess you could look at it that he is busy because he is exceptional and you have chosen a truly talent doctor to help you. Make sure you ask all the questions that you want in your consultation. You have that time so use it. Don't worry about how busy he seems to be maybe it is just his manner. I have heard nothing but fanasttic things about this doctor. Best of luck to all of you

hi hoping and ginnymc, i am wondering why dr. ho is asking you to continue with iui after 3 failed attempts. it is definitely way cheaper than ivf, but it also has 10-15% success rate. after 2 failed iui's myself, i was told(in nyc) that i could try more but most likely would not succeed this way. your cases might be completely different from mine(the reason made sense scientifically), so probably its fine...
Hi Simplythebest - could you please pm me your experience as well. I was about to try Dr. Ho for my pregnancy but would like to hear your opinion. I agree with Hoping that he is very rushed and doesn't seem to take time. A consultation with him is over within minutes (which makes you feel like getting kicked out of the door) but Kelly is a sweetheart and takes time replying to questions. Just wished the Dr. would reply them directly - it just doesn't feel right to get whisked out sometimes...
788 - I was on the waitlist for IUI in the UK before moving to HK and was told then that 6 attempts would be the maximum. Dr Ho has since told me the same but has also said I could move on to IVF sooner if I wanted. I have decided to have one more go at least at IUI before making the huge leap to IVF. Not sure why you were told it would be unlikely after 2 attempts but for me there is no reason it shouldn't work (eggs, sperm, lining etc all as they should be). The expense of IVF is not the issue, just want to avoid the really serious stuff if I can!

fair enough. good luck! ivf was a really hard decision. like you said expense was not an issue but... i suppose we all feel it should be easier than it seems to be.
we met dr. ho. he seemed very professional- he answered all the questions we had at that point. may be i am too used to being given information by dr's in the corridors while they are rushing for surgery. but incase simplythebest does log on- would still like to hear her opinion.

I conceived on my 4th attempt at IUI with Dr Ho so it is possible.
Trudy,
Thanks, hearing that makes it all seem worthwhile.

I was pretty happy with Dr. Ho, I even travelled from Beijing to see him! Pregnant now after 3. IUI with him.
He was busy, but all the questions I had, he took his time to answer. It worked for me to prepare my questions in advance (write it down so you don't forget) and let him know in the beginning that there are some topics.
Also the response via email was very fast and accurate.

I got pregnant with Dr Ho on my 5th attempt IUI back in 2005 and each time it was not rushed. I stayed in the room afterwards for 20mins each time and could rest longer if I wished. I am pleased with his service and highly recommend him. I guess with the increase in pregnancies this year he will be busier hence the rush. He even works in his lunch-hour as I used to have all my appointments at this time.
hoping: i have just completed my 1st IUI cycle with another dr (dr joseph chan). i want to share with you that i have the same view towards my own gyn dr; that he always has lots of patients and can sometimes seems rushing. i guess the thing that i am happy about my doctor has been willing to come in on sundays / other public holidays to help me track the maturity of the follicles. at the beginning, i was a bit unsure if i should stay with him when i saw that he always has such a busy schedule. but i guess the point that tipped the scale was that he does seem to be very knowledgeable and knows what he is doing. i would say that he perhaps has not always been patient to explain every single aspect about pregnancy / IUI to me. but i am guessing that such is a pattern of the doctors in HK. perhaps they see it as their main job to treat you and not to educate you (simply my personal view). for now i have accepted that and are learning to have more faith in him eventhough i am usually a bit of a control freak.
on a separate issue - just want to know if anyone had the same treatment after the IUI - did you have to administer suppository-like tables for the next 2 weeks post IUI?
espresso - I have had the suppository tablets every time along with 2 injections a few days apart, all to help with thickening the lining of the womb.
thanks GinnyMc - i emailed you for another question. hope you don't mind thanks.
Espresso - sorry I have been away for a couple of days and didn't see your pm. Have replied to it now, hope it's not too late!
Thanks for all the answers, It has been interesting to read them and hear everyones different experiences. Are there any people out there who were successful using Dr Ho for IUI? Does anyone know of any independent figures collated that can be used to measure a doctors success rates??
I am due to have a blood test tomorrow to test if PG...but I can just tell I am not...... again! ...am feeling very pmt and bloated and a bit crampy, despite taking the progesterone for the last two weeks since the IUI took place.
Hi Hoping, I am also with Dr. Ho - 4 IUI's and 2 fresh IVF and one frozen cyle. I got pregnant on my second IUI but mc. To answer your question there are no independent figures for success rates and even if there were you would have to factor in that some doctors will not treat the difficult patients (like me). hence success rates would not give a true picture. Best of luck for tomorrow which is probably today. I have a PG test Saturday and it seems an age way.

Goodluck, hoping! Please keep the board posted. Goodluck to you too rose1234!
Back to addressing your first post here. I am on my 1st IVF cycle with Dr. Ho, I had some serious concerns on the protocols he was using because I have done one cycle before and it was very different. I emailed him with my questions. Later that day, I was able to talk to him on the phone, then with Kellie. I was called in by the Dr. next day to briefly talk to him in person since he wanted to make sure I was comfortable with the choices we were making. I really appreciated all the explanations, patience and his time.

I would vouch for Dr Ho. I had two failed IUIs with him but then conceived naturally. However he performed a laparoscopy on me and delivered my daughter and I would go to him again. He is rushed because he is popular and he is popular because he is good.

I agree with Sue. I have just had one failed IUI - my first with Dr. Ho. Both Dr. Ho and Kelly took the time to explain the procedure to me. I was also able to lie down after IUI for about 45 minutes - on my way out Dr. Ho was eating his lunch at his desk. He is a good doctor and I feel he cares about his patients and their desire to be parents. I would highly recommend Dr. Ho. Kelly also called me on a Sunday to give me my test result. I cant ask for more - as far as care and professionalism is concerned.
