I'm relatively new to TTC (3 months) with no luck yet. Thought it would be a good idea to get basic hormone tests done as I'm in my late 30s. Is it best to go to any OB/GYN or straight to an infertility specialist, or is that the same person? Have had regular annual check ups at GP's office upto now. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

My understanding is that an OB/GYN after having treated a certain no. of infertilities can become an infertility specialist. I would suggest a good GYN before going to an infertility specialist. I had my hormones tested and my hubby had his sperms tested. After the initial consultation, it was discovered that I had a polyst in the area where the embryo is supposed to implant itself.

Havefaith, thank you. Any GYN that anyone can recommend, would be much appreciated.

One name that I always put up is Dr Sally Ferguson who is based in the Shiu On Centre in Wanchai (Tel: 2824-9112). You couldn't do much better than to choose Sally as your Ob/Gyn. Good luck.

Thanks TC and simplythebest. I'm going to wait 1 to 2 cycles before getting the non-invasive tests done (FSH, estrogen, and whatever) with one of those recommended. Already had thyroid tested recently and general health is fine. My GP does these tests too but I'd like to be in the hands of a specialist right from the beginning so as not to waste time, given my age. My cycle is regular, already using the OPK (very useful) for 2 months, and doing the BBT (hate it, but at least it shows I'm ovulating). We've timed BD just right in the last two months but no luck yet and I'm already anxious, which doesn't help.
