I decided to come to HK to do my IVF with Dr Derek Lo.However, due to my job I can't leave work for very long (not sure if I should tell them, would they fire me if I do?). I only was told by his nurse I should be there on the 21st day after my period. This is my first time IVF, I suppose I will be taking drugs, then injections, lot of scans, egg retrivel etc. Is it possible I can take drugs in UK and only come to HK when I start injections? Anyone has similar experience? I really don't want to quit my job here as financially I need the income. Thanks a lot !!!

hi
hope i can answer your questions, but firstly, sorry that you are at the point where you have to do ivf, but glad that art is at a point where that can help you when nature needs a nudge.
1) depending on where you work, or for what company (a multinational?) you could successfully sue if you were fired for pursuing fertility treatments. i am not overly familiar with labour laws in the uk, but you would have a firm stance for a successful lawsuit.
2) talk to the hong kong clinic as to whether you could stay in the uk and do some of your scans there. although each patient (and dr) has a different drug protocol, you may be taking injections as soon as cd2 of your cycle. by cd 9 you will be needing to have scans and bloods drawn to get an accurate reading of how your body is responding to the drugs. the dr will need the results immediately so he can instruct you on your injection amount for that evening. best to call the clinic and see their response.
good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks abn for your valuable advice and support. I really appreciate and at this stage I already feel a lot of pressure.
1) I work in a local company.I have asked around, yes they can't just terminate my employment if I seek medical aboard but I was told they can give you other reason to fire me. well in that case, I can't help but to accept it :( really nervous what will happen to me.
2) I called Derek Lo office, the nurse said I must be there on the day 21 after my period. They will start giving me injection until my next period comes (usually around 10-14 days I was told). This is my first IVF so i don't know how many days of injection I should expect. The nurse also said this doctor don't do pills (I heard others would us birth control pills first) so I need to arrive in HK prior DAY 21. From what you said here, I think I need to be there at least for a month (if I am that lucky) or I should prepare 2 months? Well I will try to call the nurse again to see if the doctor would write me a letter so I can ask for a medical leave.
I can't help but think about IVF all day - am I having too much pressure? People say that may reduce the chance of getting pregnancy. How can I release my pressure? I am so worry and feel so helpless :(
Thanks again abn!!!
