Birth certificate

I am due for delivery next month at the Prince of Wales hospital. I have seen on TV that the hospitals in most countries take the footprint and handprint of the baby on the birth certificate. Was wondering whether we can get it that way in public hospitals in HK?

No,

The ones you see on TV aren't putting the prints onto a birth certificate,(you can't deface official documents), just a card. They don't do it here, but there's no reason you can't do it oyurself, although probably easier to wait until you've got the baby at home. Use kids washable paint, thats what we did. You don't receive the birth certificate from the hospital, you get it when you go and register the baby.

As cd says it's not on the birth certificate. (Most?) hospitals in the US will put footprints on a form with vital statistics. This goes in hospital records as far as I know. At least they don't send it home with you.

We also brought a small photo album with us and they were happy to put the prints there too (ink on the feet anyway). We then put pictures, the plastic bracelets, the sign on the crib and other such mementos in the album. We have one per kid.
