No marriage cert, no IVF

I've just discovered that I cannot legally embark on IVF as my partner and I aren't married, despite being in a long term, committed relationship, living

together.


I am devastated.


I am shortly moving to Singapore so i'm wondering if anyone know whether there is similar legislation there?


I'm desparate for a glimmer of hope somewhere.

Yes, I was made aware that HK now has this rule.


Singapore is more strict, besides having to show your marriage rule. You have to buy insurance for IVF. The cost of insurance is depends on how many eggs going to put inside you.

I have been in a steady defacto relationship for 15 years in Aug. I too was denied fertility treatment by a few docs in HK and was treated with prejudice and disrespect. When I recently went to a fertility expert in Australia, he was completely blown away by the no marriage cert no IVF situation in HK. He offered me the treatment, but I won't be able to spend 4 wks to complete the treatment there.


Well, looks like Hong Kong is light years away from being a liberal, broadminded world-class city in this aspect. I do question the rationale behind that industry code of conduct (it's not the law btw) that seems to discriminate against unmarried people. Are they saying we will definitely be irresponsible parents due to our martial status? Blind me.
