Hello, Could anyone please recommend a place for restless legs and feet? I am a reluctant to go to a foot massage place off of the street without a recommendation for expecting ladies. I am now in my 5th month and since few days my feet are hurting a bit and I can see swelling in my ankles too. I think I might have RLS because I need to move continuously and it is not helping my feet. I have been trying to keep my legs up and it has helped some. Is there any other way to reduce the discomfort?

Hi -sa, I really feel for you since I had the same problem quite severely: Restless Leg Syndrome! No massage etc. would help and I only found walking to be the most comfortable 'position' - needless to say that walking for 24 hours couldn't be done. Anyways - I did some research and the only thing that helped me was some iron supplements. Sorted the problem out in a couple of days but please contact your doctor before taking them since there is a specific kind you can take during pregnancy and dosage for safety reasons only! Hope you feel better soon - it's the worst feeling I have ever been in!

I forgot to add: it was not my doctor who recommended the iron supplements, - this was due to my research. My doctor just wouldn't see 'my problem' and suggested that iron supplements wouldn't work for RLS. THEY DID within 2 days in my case! Google RLS and you will find loads of info.

hi -sa, I too have suffered quite badly throughout my pregnancy with RLS. Funnily enough I also went on iron tablets, but mine was due to massive drop in iron levels and I was on quite a large dose for a while. But the painful cramps and restlessness did subside somewhat. I have actually just gone off the tablets in the last week and I have noticed that the cramps are coming back. I never really put the two together, so thanks mucilagineux.
The only relief I found from the RLS is to stand on cool tiles and yes, having a walk around, which is not that much fun at 3am in the morning! I have a build up of pillows to elevate my legs in bed during the night as well.
Definatley check with your doctor about the iron tablets though, because it is something that needs to be monitored.
If all else fails, just think to the next thing in the pregnancy which will be the back pain, that will take the focus off your legs!!

Thanks, guys! Makes me feel better that there is a some kind of a solution out there. Will call the Dr. as soon as the clinic is open and find out about iron supplements. I did have pillows underneath to elevate my feet atleast, but last night was quite uncomfortable. Can't imagine the discomfort as the pregnancy progresses as this is even before my half way mark!!
neenib, did you do yoga for back pain? Does it make any difference? I have seen my mom in pain for years with back pain after her second delivery. Thats one thing I am paranoid about.

I did used to go to yoga, but found working and caring for a child too too much and just couldn't motivate myself to go. My first pregnancy was posterior so I had all my labour pain across the back and ever since then, when I got my period each month I had pain around the back.
I have only started getting back pain as I'm getting bigger towards the end of the pregnancy so I shouldn't complain I have had a good second pregnancy. You may find as you get heavier your back will ache, but heat packs and a couple of painkillers usually help, also a nice hot shower. Blessedly I only have a matter of weeks to go, so the light is getting bigger at the end of the tunnel!
Good Luck!

Hi
No specific advice but a little hope... I had horrendous leg cramps in the 4-5 months of pregnancy - awake at night - v painful... elevated legs, drinking water etc but nothing seemed to touch it...
and then it just went... am now well into 7th month and haven't had anything for weeks and weeks... some symptoms are temporary - so hang in there
btw - don't take iron supplements without your doc's approval & having your iron levels checked... if you do need some, you may need to take with vit C to help absorption.
