Hi there scotsgirlinhk.

I know this doesn`t answer your question, for which I apologise, however, I drank loads of the stuff with my first child, having read about it in some pregnancy book or magazine.

Now I know I can`t say what things would have been like had I not had it, but in my opinion, I felt it probably didn`t make any difference.

I`m sure there will be other ladies out there who disagree, but I feel it is so easy the first time around to go for everything and anything you read about. Second time around I will not be bothering.

That said, if you really want to try it I wonder whether ThreeSixty or City Super might have it. Failing that, what about the various health food shops - think there`s one in Lyndhurst Terrace.

Good luck in any event.

Raspberry leaf tea is nutrient rich and contains many of the vitamins and minerals necessary for a healthy pregnancy including vitamins A, C, E and B, magnesium, calcium and iron. Consuming raspberry leaf tea not only helps mother and baby to get all the nutrients they need but can also help to replenish a new mothers stores after the birth.

Raspberry leaf tea also contains the alkaloid 'fragine' which is said to strengthen and tone the muscles of the uterus, helping them to contract more efficiently during labour. Research has found that taking raspberry leaf during the weeks prior to delivery helps to shorten the second stage of labour by making contractions more effective. Some studies have also found that it reduces the need for an assisted delivery (i.e. an emergency cesarean or use of forceps or ventouse).

Sipping raspberry leaf tea during and after the birth is also said to help the uterus contract back down to size, reduce after birth bleeding and help initiate the let down of breastmilk.

While there hasn't been a huge amount of research into this area, the general consensus does seem to be that drinking raspberry leaf tea during the latter stages of pregnancy can help to make for a 'better' labour with few side effects.

I used it in both capsule and teabag form in the later stages of pregnancy and whilst breast feeding and I honestly found it had a huge effect on my milk production. I didn't have any for more than a week then made a pot of it and within ½ a day I was about to explode with all the extra milk! I had to pump just to relieve the pressure! I'm not sure how much it helps with uterine toning but I can deffinately say that it really ups the lactation and would reccomend it to anyone looking to improve their supply.

I must admit to only reading about it supposing to help the second stage of labour, which is why I drank a lot of it myself. However, after 24 hours in labour and eventually having a forcep delivery, that is probably why I was not convinced it helped me in any way.

You can also buy Organic Raspbery Leaf Tea and Raspberry Rooibos Tea at H-TEA-O in Causeway Bay.

Being a man I can't vouch for its effectiveness but apparently 1/3 of pregnant women in europe drink raspberry leaf tea. Normally recommended to take 1 cup a day in the first trimester, increasing to three cups in the third. Its very good for you anyway.

Pregnant women in South Africa drink Rooibos as this has been shown to reduce spasms. So the Raspberry Rooibos covers both suggestions. It is caffeine free.

The H-TEA-O Tea Garden can be found at 1/F, Fashion Walk, 19 Great George Street, Causeway Bay. Just next to MTR exit E. The website www.h-tea-o.com has a map.

You can drink either herbal tea there or buy some to take home. H-TEA-O stock over 70 teas so you can normally find anything you might want there.

Hope that helps
