Hello,
has anyone had experience in delivering via water birth in Hong Kong?
Current OB-Gyn I went to was extremely unhelpful - said it was unsafe etc... I know in other countries UK and US it is extremely popular.
Any advise?
Thank you!

It's very Unpopular over here and the health authorities/hospitals do not endorse or recommend it at all. If you search around, you will probably find someone who will do it. But you will have an uphill battle on your hands. I suggest you contact perhaps Annerley midwives or LLL even if neither of them endorse or recommend, then perhaps someone there may be able to steer you in the right direction.
HK is very rigid on anything to do with babies. When I looked into putting my baby onto formula I phoned Matilda (where I gave birth) and also Annerley to ask about a good brand of Goat Milk (due to intolerance to cow milk base) and they said they would not recommend goat milk. when I questioned why they would not tell me. I again asked what research they had to support their recommendation and they would not be forthcoming except the standard answer (clearly inside their box that they are not allowed out of!) "that is our recommendation".
So good luck.

Annerley Midwives might be able to advise you.
If you can compromise, the Matilda allows labouring women to spend some of their labour in the bath and just get out for when the baby is to be delivered.

i remember going to an antenatal class at annerley 2 years ago and the midwife who taught us said that no-one in HK supports water births. just doesn't happen here. but pls check again as i might be wrong / or something has changed. good luck. :)

I had my first child by water birth and it was amazing. I would highly recommend it. Having just found out that I'm expecting no. 2 here in Hong Kong, I'm saddened and slightly worried to hear that I might not be able to have the same birthing experience...
