Just want to seek your advice.
I am 40 years old, very healthy. we tried to have a baby last year. After a series of tests. we found out that i had pco but no symdrome. I also ovulate so the problem is irregular periods, - immature eggs?? around 35 to 42 days. I may have one tube blocked. hubby is fine. my fsh is below 6
IVF was carried our few months ago abroad but unsuccessful. i only had 3 eggs retrieved after few days of stimulation as i over reacted to the drugs. (300 G for 5 days, with 50 suppression drug, 150 G for 2 days 25 suppression drug and suppression drug only for a few more days) 2 grade 1 embroys were put back. unfortunately the doc was so inexperienced that he poked for 15 minutes without success. It may due to the crooked entrance of the uterus. A consulatant had to call in to finish the job. by then i was half dead.
the whole process was not too scary for me except the last bit, but am now looking for an ivf expert in hk. have heard good things about few experts but want to know who is good at poc and age 40+ women?
As I will be back to HK, am thinking of acupuncture and chinese medicine, pls advise what i should be or should not be eating and doing
your advice is highly appreciated

hi
i have non symptomatic pcos and a reverted uterus (which it sounds like you might also have). i also developed OHSS.
we used dr philip ho and were very pleased with him. his assistant kelly, is fantastic. dr ho is very straightforward. the good news is, he doesn't use lupron, he uses a stimulating drug called cetrotide, which has fewer side effects than lupron.
i do not know about his statistics for women over 40, but i do know several of my friends who are over 40 who have seen him and have achieved take home pregnancies.
i recommend the use of acupuncture and herbs. there are several very good acu's who specialise in infertility, if you do a search on this board you will come up with their names.
good luck. are you going to get the hydrosalp. test to determine if your tube is officially blocked??

Hi,
Many thanks for your response.
I used hycosy, (spelling not sure), i could have used x rays but not keen on having x ray done. doc said the ans of the test was not definitive. The stimuation drugs we used here is GnRH, and the suppression drug is called burselin.
What is cetrotide, I suppose it is a stimulating drug.
I am planning to see troy when i am back. Did u have it done before your ivf? how long before ivf? how many ivf have you done. just wondering if your gfs also suffering from non symptomatic pcos? it seems there are some success stories by dr. doo. any ideas?
i suppose u are a lot younger than me.
just wondering if drinking coffee occasionlay hurts that much
thanks for your well wishes

I would also recommend Philip Ho. He has a lot of experience with women over 40. He told me his oldest successful IVF patient was 45. He had two such patients and both brought home healthy babies. I am not sure about his experience with PCOS though.
Good luck.

maryp,
i am in my 2ww period right now after working with dr. ho for the first time. i think dr ho is very good. i consulted alex doo but decided not to go ahead with him. i am sure he is very good, but at that time, i felt he was very busy, probably as a result of a very high patient load. he seemed to have a lot going on (he stepped out of the room for a few minutes to do an IUI and then rushed back in to finish our discussion). you could probably do a search here and see what other women have had to say about him.
i tried acupuncture earlier this year but found it to be very painful. i stopped after a few sessions. also, i was given chinese herbal medicine at the time, but could not get the medicine down. i was told it goes down better if you hold your breath. nevertheless, it did not work for me, so i did not pursue this either.
i suggest you consult a few doctors and discuss your situation and needs. i found that one of the most important things is to find a good doctor who understands and really takes an interest and is supportive of your case. also, a lot of it has to do with chemistry so some doctors who do well with some women do not do so well with others. lastly, it's important that the appointments, wait times, and staff work with your needs and your schedule. the key is to remain stress free so do make sure you put yourself in an environment that works smoothly for you.
good luck.
