Hi there

I am 39 and have just gone through a miscarriage, which on the positive side meant I was able to conceive (first time of trying though) but I felt it was good to go for a check up before starting anything.

I had been in HK for many years and only had minor check ups like when starting work with a new company etc, so I decided to go to Bangkok to the Bumrungrad and have a full check up there - I thought it was much more reasonable than HK, and although you feel like you're on a bit of a conveyor belt having all the tests done, it was all over and done with by about 1 pm.

I took the pre-marital tests and the well-woman tests which included pap smear, mamogram etc. After the all-clear from that I felt I was ok to come off the pill.

I dont think it would be nice to find out you were pregnant then find something underlying in your health that you need treatment for.

Good luck!

Hi,

I am sorry about your miscarriage!

I have a 3 year old son born when I was 34. I didn't do any check ups then. But it seems once you get above 35 things get a bit harder. Fertility etc goes down hill. So that is why I was wondering. I have heard of woman who had an u.s to check ovaries etc.

I will have a look around.

Thanks for your reply and Good Luck as well!

You may want to try for a few months first, but make sure you try during your fertile days. If it doesn't work after 6 months, then it is worth having a check up to make sure there are no blockages, you are ovulating, and hubby would need to get checked out too.

Hi voyager05,

I gave birth to our first in 06 a month before I turned 35. I came off the pill 18 months ago and thought if we get pregnant we get pregnant... For the last two months I have been using an ovulation kit and I just found out at the weekend that we are pregnant. We are thrilled although it's still very early stages. If all goes well baby is due 2 days after my 38th bday....

I would give the ovulation kit a try first and if nothing happens prehaps then you could look into having some check ups done. Good luck and have lots of fun trying!!!

cheeky to hear about your miscarriage. My thoughts are with you.

For the check up after 6 months, I would recommend Dr Philip Ho.

Hi voyager05,

The "pee on stick" ones are what I used and are available from most Watsons & Mannings. You usually get 5 sticks in a box. No particular brand either with my first pregnancy I used Wastons own and this time round I used a brand made in Canada.

Have fun....
