how much extra unpaid leave can you take to tack onto your paid maternity leave? 6 months? 12? or this is negotiable between you and your employer?? thanks.
or legally, employers do not have to grant unpaid leave upon employees request??

I am a lawyer - but not an employment lawyer. However, it is my understanding that the unpaid leave is negotiable. There is no legal right for employees to take unpaid leave.

Just been through all that with my employer.
You are not legally entitled to any unpaid leave on top of your maternity leave so it is entirely up to the negotiation between you and your employer. I just got his agreement for 4 weeks.
