You need to go and see a government clinic doctor you can find your nearest one on the following link:

http://www.ha.org.hk/visitor/ha_visitor_index.asp?Page=ha_isf_result&location=&service_type=GOPD&lang=ENG

After assessment with them they would normally refer you to see a hospital clinic where you get assessed by a nurse who will then if they feel it is appropriate refer you to a doctor.

The government clinics you can normally get a walk in appointment, each follow up will normally take one to two weeks, if you get to the point where you are referred to a hospital clinic doctor the wait list is long (we saw the nurse session last August and are waiting to see the doctor this February!!) After that I have no idea how much longer it takes, but from past experience with HK Hospitals once you're "in the system" things then start moving a lot quicker. So we are keeping our fingers crossed for that to happen next month.

I have heard the figures 30-45,000 for government IVF and 2 goes - no idea if this is actually true or not....

Good luck

Fieter,

I almost did IVF at QM last year. I had to fax a doctors' note to the reception to set up an appointment with the doctors there. Then I met with a doctor about 2 or 3 months later and then attended a seminar. The following cycle you can then start the IVF cycle on 21st day - the long protocol. Please do bear in mind that there is a public and a private route at QM. I could not have gone thru the public route because of age limitation. I think the cut off age is 39.

If you dont qualify for the public route, it costs about the same via the private route - HK$60K or so. Not that much difference in costs of going thru with a private doc.

I dont have any contact nos. because I never went thru with them. If you call QM's general line - I am sure they will be able to help you.

i believe the government subsidized ivf gives discounted prices on the medications. my meds cost me about $15,000, on top of the $50,000 the clinic charged. so it is a considerable discount, although the waiting times must be frustrating.

if you are looking for cheaper ivf, have you considered cycling in thailand or south africa?
