Hello. I am trying to get pregnant. Have been trying for three months now. I think that perhaps I should go in for a pre-pregnancy check-up. Does anyone rec. a GREAT doctor. I want to go to the best in Hong Kong! Also, at what point should I start to consider getting a fertility check? I am worried that getting pregnant may not be an easy thing for me.

Finally, is there such a thing as a pre-pregnancy check for men

hi amy

one of the more frustrating aspects of wanting to get pg is the waiting. if you go in to a dr and ask for assistance at this point, he is likely to ask you to chart your basal body temperature for two/three months to ensure that you are ovulating.

if you google basal body temperatures there are many websites that will tell you how to go about charting.

when you go in to the doctor, here are some answers to know:

1) how long is your cycle

2) are you ovulating (temperature rise will tell you this

3) how regular is your cycle

4) when was your last pap smear

5) are you and your partner practising timed intercourse during your fertile window period? (romantic huh). how often are you having intercourse?

i would recommend philip ho or dr leung. both have great reputations.

i would also recommend that your husband get a pp check up in the form of a semen analysis. saves so much time and trouble. easy enough to get one.

hope this helps and good luck to you.

Honestly I think you are jumping the gun, unless you are 40+. 80 % of women conceive within the first year. I would prob wait 6 months before rushing off to see anyone 3 tries is still early days. Are you using ovulation sticks to try and predict the best times to have intercourse? Problem today is most people want everything now!!! Unless you have iregular periods osr a previous history maybe you should try a few more times. Even with IUI and IVF it can take at least 3 tries for people with no probs using donor sperm and hormone controled cycles!

Thanks for the replies! I appreciate the honesty. MayC....have you had any luck? I know that I haven't been trying for too long. I just get worried. Ever since we decided to start trying,....it seems like all my friends are becoming pregnant. I am happy for them, yet at the same time, every time a friend has good news....I worry even more that something is wrong with me. Especially when a few of my friends told me that they weren't even trying and it happened.

Dear amyHK, the other posters are probably right in saying you should keep on trying for a few more months. Still, it is very understandable that you would like to get pregnant soon and that you are starting to worry. My advise would be is that you make sure your are really trying at the right time. Buy a book on how to go about all this, that will really help. (I am convinced it helped me getting pregnant fast!) I recommend 'Taking charge of your fertility' by Toni Wechsler. Start charting your temperature etc like she advises. You will then know whether you are ovulating and when, so you can plan making that beautiful baby! Good luck.

I would highly reccommend Dr. Doo. He is located in Room 318, 3/F Central Building, 3 Pedder Street, Central and they have a website: http://www.thewomensclinic.com.hk Phone number is 2523 3007. I went to him 5 years ago when I was also battling to fall pregnant (had been tring for about 18 months by then). They have a package which was aruond HK$5000 at the time. The package was basically a full health check for you as well as a semen analysys for your partner. One they had done all the blood tests, sperm count etc. they were able to give me a good idea of where to go from there. As it happened I fell pregnant naturally a month before we were due to start basic fertility treatment. However, we continued to see Dr. Doo throughout the pregnancy and he was nothing short of brilliant. He alwasy gave us a lot of time and although he is a popular Dr, we were never given the impression that he was rushed. He carefully explained the pros and cons of every decision we made. All this and we did not even have private insurance so had to go public for the birth! He was more than happy to see us whenever we wanted as he knew we were going public for the birth and that I was going for appointments in the public hospital as well. So sometimes it would be 2 or 3 months before we would make an appointment to see him again. Each time I felt as though I was his only patient. I have since had another child and am currently pregnant with my 3rd (so much for those fertility issues!!). I still continue to see him on an on and off basis as I am still using the public system for my pregnancy and the actual birth. He has been absolutely invaluable to my peace of mind and general well being. He has also given me his cell phone number and has made it very clear that I am welcome to call any time I have a problem. I have had to take him up on this a couple of times (unusual bleeding etc) and once again he gave me the impression that I wasn't interrupting him in the least and he took the time to ask questions and give me detailed answers. I have reccommended him to many friends who have since been to him and were equally impressed. I know it is a personal opinion but I really don't think there is a better Dr. in Hong Kong. By the way, he usually charges around $1900 for an appointment and a detailed scan (he has all the 3 and 4-D machines in his office) and each appointment that I have had has never been less that 20 minutes. The longest was over an hour! Good luck.
