Get a second opinion from a fertility specialist/Doctor. Get yourself checked again to be sure you have this condition. And ask the Dr. if a procedure is absolutely necessary.

My friend has PCOS and she almost gave up hope to get preg. She went to see Dr Carina Chan at Princes Building and got preg the next cycle. Best of luck.

Hi dreamhardtry,

I have PCOS as well and have consulted several fertility specialists. I think the ovarian drilling your doctor refers to is laparoscopy, a minor surgery to clear blocked fallopian tubes. The procedure takes only a few minutes to complete, and is definitely less invasive than IVF or IUI.

I think you should seek second opinions. But treatments for PCOS usually involve the following:

1. Check whether you have PCOS via ultrasound and blood test

2. Check whether your fallopian tubes are blocked

3. If so, consider laparoscopy

4. If not, try ovulation induction drugs Clomid + Metformin

5. start considering IUI or IVF if the medication doesn't work for a few cycles

My doctor also told me that laparoscopy sometimes help regulate people's hormone level somehow; a lot of people with PCOS start ovulating regularly after they have the surgery done. Just FYI.

I am lucky to have gotten pregnant after 1 cycle of Clomid + Metformin. Keep trying and stay positive!

Hi dreamhardtry,

I was also diagnosed with PCOS while trying for my first child and was very lucky to get pregnant after just one cycle of Clomid (which failed), Metformin and Gonal-F injections.

I think doctors in HK are so much more aggressive then in Europe, where they would take a much slower approach to things. Having a good insurance certainly helps to speed things up here.

I absolutely agree with littlecloud and would definitely seek a second opinion.

I was with Dr Christine Choy and found her very professional throughout my pregnancy (even though she's certainly not the hand-holding kind of doctor).

The good news is: my periods are now more regular then ever. There's certaily hope for your 3 kids once you get the PCOS sorted out.

Best of luck! Keep us posted.

Hi dreamhardtry,

I was misdiagnosed with PCOS and went to another doctor for a second opinion. I fell pregnant the next cycle.

I would get a second opinion if I was you.

Good Luck!
