Hello everyone....I live in HK now but would like to have my second child in Guangzhou due to financial difficulty. Is just so expensive in HK to have a baby. My question is has anyone delivered in GZ and which hospital do you recommend. After the delivery I would like to return to HK as soon as possible. How long does it take for newborn to receive their China birth certificate becauses I would like to apply for his/her US citizenship right away. Thanks

I have not had a child on the mainland, but have seen many of their hospitals and would not go to any of them.....even if my life depended on it.

The fact that so many mainlands come to HK to have their kid, gives you a big clue as to why (and its not for the perminant residency its is because of the standard of health care).

Can't be that bad - worked for millions of them!

There are some upscale hospitals in the larger centres. Got to be cheaper than the U.S.

You'll have to get the birth certificate translated and certified as accurate before starting in with the U.S. process.

Of course there is Bangkok or Singapore with really good facilities.

A thought. Re-entering HK with an additional body might be problematic - better check this out, too.

The people at the VIP center in Guangzhou are really great! That is the place to go and the cost is sooo much less than Hong Kong!

If you live in HK, why don`t you go through the public system? It`s practically free.

I had my baby at the VIP birthing Centre, but we lived in SZ at the time.

The price at VIP centre is about 17K rmb for a normal delivery and 25K for a c-section. You would have to travel to GZ for many doctor`s appts, which is very tiring, the more pregnant you are. I used to travel from SZ all the time and it wasn`t so easy.

You can get the birth certificate while you`re in the hospital, but then you need to take it to some official Chinese office in GZ (sorry my hubbie did it) to get it translated. Because we were living in China, we had to later register my baby at the local police station and then get an EXIT VISA in order for him to go to HK. I would check to make sure you don`t have to get the exit visa. It takes about 3-5 days for that. So the whole time you will have to stay in a hotel with a newborn, not lots of fun.

If you have HKID, go to the public hospital. Otherwise, I would suck up the cost and go to the cheapest private hospital and stay in a ward room.

i had a good experience with VIP birthing centre but if I was living in HK at the time, I would definitely without a doubt have had my baby here.
