New Territories OBGYN / birth hospital?

Hi All,

Most of the advice regarding these topics is very relevant for people living on HK island and I was hoping someone out there had some New Territories experience!

I am looking for recommendations for a kind and caring OBGYN and also a hospital for birth of first child. My insurance does not cover anything pregnancy related, so I will be paying myself, but am considering the private hospital/private room options. Ideally I would like one doctor to follow me through the process from start to finish.

Does anyone have any experiences they are willing to share about Union Hospital or perhaps even HK Baptist (Kowloon I know!)?

Any shared experiences may be helpful for me whilst I am wading through a minefield of information!

Thanks in advance.

C

i had my baby at union hospital and all my prenatal check ups there too. my doc was connie yuen.

at first, i found her very rushed and not very detailed, but as time went on, i found her to be very professional and thorough. u just need to let her know what u want and she will respect ur decisions as much as she can within reason.

the hospital staff were also very nice and caring.

somepeople don't like this, but they ahve the baby in the nursery at all times. the mom is allowed to see the baby anytime she wishes and are welcomed to go during feeding times and they do encourage breatsfeeding. the dad's are only allowed during special bonding times which happens i think 2 times a day.

personally, i found this arrangement to be excellent. though i would like to bond with my baby, but after a c-section, i was really in no condition to take care of her; i need all the rest i could get.

hope this helps ur search.

hi C,

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I have had all my 3 children in the public hospital in HK. The last 2 at the Prince of Wales in Sha Tin and found them wonderful (although you have to know what to expect). That is why I started my own business offering Pre and Post natal care in the Sai Kung and Clearwater Bay area. I provide practical and emotional support easing the transition into parenthood. If you would like anymore information I can be contacted through www.postnatalcare.com.hk. Regards Koru Postnatal care.
