Dear all
I am expecting my first child later this year and after much thought would like to have the option of giving birth in Canada.
Wife parents have Canadian citizenship but she only studied there on a student visa. She was in the process of gaining her citizenship but left the country before her approval. She is currently seeing her obstetrician in Hong Kong who could transfer her details to Canada when required. Currently 24 weeks in to the pregnancy. Still in debate whether to go for cesarean or natural birth.
Does anyone know what the requirements are for non resident birth in Canada?
How much visits to the local Canadian obstetrician are required?
What is the maximum maternity time hospitals accept?
Typical costs be for both Government and private hospitals? Hospital and obstetrician fees plus others?
Tried looking at various sites but none really explained what is actually required.
Many thanks in advance.
Jim

Did you find your answer?
If not, my information (I'm a non-resident Canadian in HK, also was looking at the option of birth back in Canada):
- If you're non-resident, you pay ALL costs for medical care (incl birth/pregnancy of course), unless you're covered by your own international medical plan (many only include emergency complications related to pregnancy, or maybe nothing at all).
- You need to call the hospital you're considering, to get the costs. It may take them a while to work it out, as this is an unusual situation in Canada, given the public health care system pays for %99.9 of the cases.
Good luck!
