No heartbeat - 2 months' pregnancy

Would you ask for a second opinion if your doctor tell you that there is no heart beat from the baby during only 2 months' in the pregnancy? Anyone have this experience? Please share.

My friend took her doctor's advice and had an operation to take out the fetus without consulting anyone, not even her parents. Would this affect her future pregnancy? I am so angry & sad.

No, I wouldn't because I trust my obstetrician and sadly this type of thing is quite common- it's called a missed miscarriage, whereby the embryo has died but the woman's body hasn't naturally miscarried it. The removal is necessary to avoid possible infection and because a lot of women find it emotionally difficult to just wait for nature to take it's course, knowing thatthe baby has died. It's very sad for your friend but it's likely she'll be able to go on to have a normal pregnancy. A friend of mine had this happen at 11 weeks and just gave birth to a lovely little girl who was conceived 3 months after the miscarriage.

It depends on how the Dr checked for the heartbeat. If he used a doppler...then you often can't hear anything that early. But if he did a transvaginal ultrasound then I agree with the previous poster.

Yes I would definitely take a second opinion. Doctors are not always right. If anything it would stop the mother from endlessly worrying if the Doc had been wrong.
