Hi. My husband and I are trying for a baby and have been encouraged to buy some kind of health insurance. Our work policy does nopt cover this for pregnancy and birth / delivery. Can anyone pls suggest ways to go about this and who they have used in the past?
Cheers

Depending on your own needs & affordability the nurse/midwife to mothers ratio, care, attention & support can make quite a big gap between public & private hospitals. But I'm totally agree with Cara that you have to subscribe your insurance plan early to allow enough time for the waiting period - a typical insurance practice during which some of the diseases /treatments will receive no coverage so as to avoid pre-existing conditions.
Some better off programs can even settle the bills directly with the hospital, so you don't have to worry about preparing that large lump sum of money to settle the charges by yourself, even if you can reimburse it later. However almost no government hospitals, & not all private hospitals do entertain such practice. You may want to make sure that this can be arranged between your short listed hospitals & insurers. I know Matilda accepts a lot of them since they have a long history of receiving insurance covered expatriaties.
Hope this helps.
