Kismett,

I believe private means your own room and semi-private means 2 beds per room. If your health insurance covers you for semi-private then make sure you stay in a semi-private room. Otherwise, you will pay the difference.

I am not sure what you mean by "share care".

Yes, you can do this - see a private obgyn and then deliver in a public hospital. BUT you do need to register at whatever public hospital you intend delivering at.

I am doing a combination of private and public care. You need to a get a reference letter from your private doc in order to register at a public hospital. Then they'll set up check ups and scans for you.

Hi Thanks Fluery, I am booked into the Prince of Wales because of my age 34 I had to have and oscar scan. all normal. I asked them then am I booked in now for delivery and was told yes and booked me two more antinatal appointments. I first saw sally ferguson and because I have diabeties in my family and underactive thyroid she wants to monitor me the public hospitaldidnt really care. So my questions are if you do this combination of care does it mean you have twice as many appointments because you aredoubling up withthe doctors do you have to go to every one of the public check ups or do you tell them about the private exams and just get copies of letters.

help all very confusing and is it true we need to take our own toilet paper at the prince of wales.

Kismett, what I do is that I tell my private doctor that I am following the public prenatal program so he can coordinate. Most doctors here know what the public program and they should certainly work around it. Try to get the expensive tests done through the public system because they are practically free. Only go private when they are not offered. QMH lets me carry my own records so I can share with my private doctor as well.
