Hi ladies,
I just moved to HKG 2 weeks ago and did the pee on the stick preg. test this morning. Came back positive. Am 43 and this would be our 2nd. Lived in HKG before so am perm. resident (but never had kids here). Would really appreciate advice/recommendations on a good OBGYN and the private vs. public systems for prenatal care and delivery. Will do a walk in blood test at Sanitorium today b/c our new flat is in Happy Valley.
Thank you soooo much!!

Congratulations. Be sure to book your hospital bed early as all hospitals are very full. Not sure about other hospitals but at Matilda we can take a booking from a doctor at 9 weeks if accompanied by blood tests and scan report.
If you would like to take a look around please feel free to call our Client Relations Manager, Inty, on 2849 0355.
Our website does have information on our services and the bed situation on maternity for easy reference. Once the doctor has booked a bed you can also arrange your admission on line.

I am currently seeing Dr Robert Stevenson in Century Square, D'Aguilar Street. If you are covered by insurance he's great coz he takes time over appts, has a good bedside manner, if a little dry, and good staff. But he's very expensive - HK$1800/consultation. Also, he's a fertility and high-risk expert I think. He delivers at Adventist. I used to see Dr Arabinda Ghosh who many consider the best Ob-gyn in HK and certainly he has probably done the most number of deliveries. He delivers at Matilda and has a good bedside manner. He's very busy, rushes thru appts, a 1-2 hour wait is routine in his waiting room as are reschedulements. Cannot comment on public sorry.

Thank you SA for the reply and info. on Dr. Stevenson. Unfortunately I am not covered by a good insurance plan here that covers any maternity, so all is out of pocket. His fees would be too much for us. I have an appt. wtih Dr. Philip Ho in 1.5 weeks and will try to get into see Dr. Macor Wan, who a friend recommended. I am also going to go through registration in public system to see how my comfort level is with the system. Luckily, this is my 2nd so I know what tests I want/need and am not going in blindly.

You may want to see Lucy Lord - 2824 0822. She runs a busy practice but she offers a "package" which keeps the costs down. Have a search on this site as there is someone who can PM keeps a listing of on obs and approx costings.

I'm all over the board right now...have appts to see Dr. Macor Wan (recommended by a friend w/3 kids delivered by him), Dr. Philip Ho (recommended by another friend although she thinks he's pricey and sometimes suggests extra scans when not needed), and Tsan Yuk Hospital if I want to go through the public system. I did not enquire about "package" although some friends did mention that some docs offer them. I'll call back Wan and Ho offices to see. I actually called Dr. Lord's office Friday and was told a midwife would call me back that afternoon to answer questions, but no one ever called. Maybe the practice is too busy....?
