I have just failed by first IVF cycle and looking to do a fresh cycle shortly. But the cost of the first one worked out to be VERY expensive. The drugs are obviously very expensive and I ended up having to stim for nearly 14 days!
But even looking at the other costs involved for the egg collection, icsi etc etc was very expensive. I think I paid..
$16,000 to doc for the egg collection
$35,000 to the lab for the egg collection, general and transfer
$6,000 to doc for transfer
So total $57,000 without any drugs, scans and blood work.
Does anyone else have any comparison costs?
Does this sound expensive?
Thanks!

Buz,
I did my first cycle in July the cost all up including drugs and scans came to approx $70,000. By the time you add drugs & scans to yours probably quiet similar. If you go private at a private hospiat I think this about right. I have read here of people getting better deals by going private at QM

Hi, thanks for replies
Rose1234, do you mind telling me who your doc is. Thanks.
See I had 14 days of drugs Gonal F - HK$2200 per day and plus one other at US$700. So I paid over 40K in drugs. So it all worked out to be a very expensive few weeks!

I saw Dr Haines as a private patient at the Prince of Wales - and now I am six months pregnant! It was our first cycle together so we are blessed. The total cost I believe was round $45,000 (included in this price was the Gonal F which was about $7000 and I was stimulated for about the same number of days as you). The cycle could have been cheaper had I used their standard drugs. If time is on your side you can put your name down now on the waiting list for IVF as public patient (about two year's wait) and then it is basically free at the public hospitals. Dr Haines is a true gem.

Thanks for all your replies... Boobear, congratulations! As private patient did you have to wait long for an appointment and were you seen on time? I work 9-6, just not sure how feesible going to Sha Tin will be for me. But the price is certainly cheaper! Unfortunately I can't put my name down as a public patient as I'm not married and time is not on my side, shame!

I did my IVF in Queen Mary Hospital. I got pregnant in my first frozen embryo transfer. I am now 4 months pregnant.
I used the O & G Dept private clinic. There is no waiting time. You can choose your doc and see him as soon as he has time. The appointments are usually 7:30a.m. in the morning.
The doc will see all private patients first before seeing the public patients. So I was able to leave at around 8a.m. Enough time to attend work on time. It costed me about HK$50,000 for IVF with ICSI. It costs less for simple IVF.
During IVF, 10 eggs were retrieved from me and 9 were fertilized through ICSI. 6 fertilized eggs cleaved, so I had 6 chances. In the first IVF cycle, 2 were put in but I was not pregnant. I did frozen embryo transfer 2 months later and put in another 2 embryos. I am now waiting for my baby to be born. I still have 2 frozen embryos and will put them in after this baby is born.

ss8899,
That's great news! I've heard a lot of cases where pregnancy occurs with the frozen embryos. My hubby and I are embarking on our first IVF cycle in November, but have to start taking the nose spray in October. Did you have to do that? And it's good how you had 10 eggs for retrieval.
I'm a bit frightened about the whole thing and not sure whether I should take some time off work. Age is definitely a consideration for me and we don't want to let it drag on.

s8899,
I am so happy to hear your good news! How are you going along with your pregnancy?
As for me I did just had my first IVF cycle with 3 embryos put in, but the result were negative. May I ask you which doctor you used for the IVF procedure in QM? Also, may I also know what grades were your embryos?
Thank you!
