infant carseat, that's the safest option.

we bought the Maxi Cosi carseat which will fit in any vehicle including taxis. It doubles into a carrycot and also slots into a pram base so you can go from vehicle to street. I highly recommend it and the babe sleeps a dream in it.

hello Vulvic, what model of Maxi Cosi did you buy? We are looking for 2 in 1 ( from newborn up to 3 yrs at least )

Ours came home in a Maxi Cosi too -- a Cabrio from Bumps to Babes. It is only suitable from newborn to about 8 months. My understanding is that you need to get another one after that.

What about in places where taxis as a rule don't have backseat seatbelts?

We've bought a carseat too for our baby's arrival in December- it snaps into a stroller frame (Snap n Go). However, I have a friend who is due any day now and she is going to use a baby bjorn to bring the baby home in. I've also heard some people simply hold the baby in their arms, while they are strapped in. To each, their own! I haven't come across a carseat that works from newborn to 3 years old. There seems to be a split at around 8 months.
