Public System in HK

Hi there

I had a baby boy last year and went through the public system (Tsan Yuk/Queen Mary). I am expecting again but don't want to waste the hours and hours in the waiting room that I did last time - I am seeing someone privately for my scans now but still want to deliver at the Queen Mary.

Does anyone know how long I can leave it before I have to register with the public system? I was thinking of going along at 20 weeks for the fetal abnormality scan and just doing everything privately until then?

Has anyone does this at all?

thanks!

Hi,

I am pregnant with my first and registered early at QM/Tsan Yuk at 16 weeks or so whilst at the same time seeing a private obs. If you tell them you are also seeing a private obstetrician, they will give you the option of reducing the required visits at Tsan Yuk.

So you will have your initial consult at Tsan Yuk clinic, then they will book you in for an ultrasound at 20 weeks, and a glucose test at 28 weeks; another visit to Tsan Yuk clinic at 28/29 weeks; then I'm not required to attend at Tsan Yuk/QM until 36 weeks.

I found the wait for the ultrasound and the glucose test wasn't so bad. It is the wait at the Tsan Yuk clinic which are a pain.
