full bladder before u/s?

i'm going for my 12 week scan this week. my OB or the midwives didn't tell me to drink lots of water and fill my bladder before hand. do i need to do this?

Scanning machines these days are so high tec, there's usually no need to drink the litre or so of water before hand. Makes the scan more comfortable and enjoyable for you.

I also thought that you needed to have a fullbladder for U/S scans as i went with my sister for her scan about 9years back. I remember she was in agony and dancing around on one foot waiting for the doctor to see her after about 4ltrs of water :))


- nowadays you don't need it at all.

You can always call your doc's office beforehand just to make sure,

they never asked me to do it in HK or in the US, but in Seoul, they ask you to do it for the detailed ultrasound. I thought it strange when asked to do it on my last pregnancy as I had never had that before.
