Hi, I have just found out that I am 8 weeks pregnant and I would like to go through the public hospital system. First private hospital is very expensive and I have just visited a private doctor telling me that most of the private hospitals are already fully booked in late July 2008.

I heard lots of good things about the Tsan Yuk clinic and the Queen Mary hospital but sadly I live in the Kowloon side and I really want to deliver in a Kowloon hospitals.

Yet I have been trying call up the obsetric clinics of Queen Elizabeth and Kwong Wah hospital but either the phone line is busy or simply no one picks up the phone! I am feeling really frustrated and do not know how should I proceed to get myself register with the public hospitals or even get my first ancetal tests.

Please any advice? What should I do next?

Thanks a lot

Maybe you could just go ask in person. Have heard Queen Elizabeth has very good maternity ward and are very pro breastfeeding.

May be I should just do that the difficulty is that QE clinic opens from Mon - Sat 9am - 1pm (as from the website information) but I am always out of town because of my job.

Normally when do I need to register with the public hospital the latest? Like do I have to do this during my first trimester? And I didn't get my first antectal test yet.

Good to know that QE is good though. That's comforting. =) Thanks!

U can go to the MCHC in your area for registration. Automatically you will get registered in the public hospital of your area. I m 8 months pregnant. I did the smae, went to the MCHC close to my house (first i went to a local doctor close by, he confirmed the pregnancy n gave me a reference letter for the health centre) After that it was very easy all thru. I got the appointment letters for my further check-ups at the hospital there itself on my first visit. This is indeed very time saving.
