I'm pregnant and I have a colleague who wears overpowering perfume.
In fact, today, I actually said something to her about it.
My concern is that being pregnant, there are certain essential oils you're supposed to avoid as they can bring on contractions.
Now, maybe it's a complete coincidence, but my fetus is doing somersaults since the stink walked into the office.
Do you think, if essential oils can be harmful to pregnancy, that the same applies to just smelling certain kinds of perfume?
Should I insist she wash it off!!??

I really don't think her perfume is affecting your fetus. But you stressing about her perfume could be the reason the baby is all over the place. Exposure to essential oils is when you're rubbing it into your skin.
I have sensitivities to smells, particularly to perfumes and colones. I would ask her to not wear it again. I think asking her to wash it off right now is a little bit dramatic and likely to cause some tension. If she wears it again, remind her and then possibly try and convince your boss to create a scent free work environment.

Finally, I said something, but in a very nice way so she was not offended. And she said next time she'll just put a tiny bit on. She said it's her least favourite perfume anyway! Apparently she wears a different one everyday!
Good to know that smells won't make the fetus jumpy! hahahaha - thanks for your reply!
