Hi there,

My husband and I are considering having another child and been looking at reasonably priced private hospitals in HK. We came across St. Teresa's Private Hospital since we live on the Kowloon side.

Has anyone delivered at this hospital ? If so, would appreciate it if you could share your experience and wisdom or any advice.

Many thanks in advance !

I have given birth there and was happy but you should know that unless you have a completely private room, the baby cannot stay with you. I was alright with this as I got some rest but it doesn't suit everyone. Also, you need to go to the breast-feeding room at fixed times to feed the baby, and friends and relatives (including daddy) can only see the baby through a window at fixed visiting times. You can have visitors come to see you in your room any time. The nurses were good with giving guidance on breastfeeding. Ask for bed A nearest the window ($60 extra) so you have a little more room and privacy. Hope this helps.

Hi Maline, I toured ST. Teresa and also a friend of mine just gave birth there. I am not sure your expectations or standards but this hospital was WAY below what I had in mind. I am a nurse in the USA and found the hospital very old, dirty and backwards. As babybemine says you only will be able to breastfeed your baby at a certain time a day and only 4 times a day no nights! My friend was induced and they made her husband sit in the waiting room until she was in active labor b/c of swine flu, which never made sense to me! For pain she didn't want an epidural so for pain management they gave her a shot in the butt instead of IV! They also forgot to give her antibiotics before she went into labor for Strep B and had to quickly do in as a shot in the muscle when it is suppose to be intravenous. After givng birth they took the baby away and she sat there bleeding for 1hr as the doctor massaged her belly instead of letting the baby breastfeed which would naturally help the uterus to clamp down and stop the bleeding. I suggest to visit the hospital to make your decision! They are very strict with their rules and really don't want you to have the baby with you, rather you have to go see the baby. Good Luck!

Thans for the feedback! The breastfeeding part already through me off St Teresa and I am pretty sure my husband would not want to be in the waiting room while I am in pain especially with all the "possible" stuff ups.

Thanks again !

I thought all public hospitals in HK made the husband wait in the waiting room until the woman was in active labour and could be moved to the birthing room? Up until that time, I understand that the woman has to wait in the ward.

Starbucks2,

St Teresa is a private hospital not a public hospital. I have no idea about the protocol post swine flu but when I gave birth, they took me to the labour room soon after we got to the hospital and my husband was with me the whole time.

about breastfeeding....

i delivered at union hospital in shatin, and though they don't bring your baby to feed at night, the hospital welcomed mothers to go to the feeding room to feed. i'm not sure if that's the case with teresa though.

as for the price....

i had an emergency c-section plus a 4 ntie stay and it cost me only HKD 51k....maybe teresa is more expensive?
