Hubby and I are wanting to take a break for ourselves before the baby comes. For work time- off, it would be during end of Sept./early Oct. By that time, I will be about 26-28 weeks along.
Do you think I'd be too far along to travel? (we're thinking of chilling in Phuket for about 9 days). We're starting to research medical facilities there, and I'm not worried about flying as I've flown several times during the first trimester already. I'm seeing my doctor next week and get his opinion on it, but I don't think it should be a problem.
Has anyone traveled this far along? or to Phuket whilst pregnant? We're definitely thinking of a low-key affair here. Thanks!

Do you have private medical insurance? The only real worry in travelling somewhere like Phuket (good medical facilities, short flight) is in case the baby came so early it would need a lot of very costly hospital care. If you are insured already then you're fine. For me I'm not, and so will not travel after about 22 weeks (I did before at 24 weeks, to somewhere 3 hours from the nearest hospital, with no insurance, and I worried the whole time).

had a couple of days in bintan, indonesia when i was about 5 months pregnant.
to be honest,i didn't really enjoy being on the beach, the heat made me very tired! still, it was nice to be with just hubby and having dinner on the beachfront.

I went to Cebu at 32 weeks in Jan this year. A good idea to have some chill time before the baby!!

i went to Koh Samui when i was 28 weeks and just lounged around in a private villa. the weather was atrocious as it rained all the time but still managed to swim a bit in the pool.
the only travel insurance policy i could find that covered pregnancy (up to 32 weeks) was bluecross. well worth it for the peace of mind. Koh Samui has 2 international hospitals and make sure you have a direct flight from HK otherwise the overlay in BKK can add hours to the journey.
we also looked into bintan at the time, but decided against it as there is a malaria risk in some parts of the island.

I'm so jealous. I really fancied doing this, we wanted to have a few days in Bali and had planned to go when I was 33 wks but the doc has advised against it.
If your doc gives you a clear bill of health I def think you should have a few days away.

(flight was 8-9 hrs + boat ride to resort)
I'm 37 weeks now...and wish I was back on that gorgeous beach!
Go! And enjoy :)

Hi Ladies, thanks so much for your replies. We're just now waiting for the doc's opinion (appt. on Fri.). After that, I think we'll definitely take that babymoon. :)
