I used OPKs a few months ago but decided against them because I finished one pack with NO results.
No positives were detected.
Anyway, I went to see my gynae last week (flu) and he recommended that I try it again. I tried it a few days ago and got my positive. Yay!!!
But I mean, does it really help with pregnancy? How many cycles on average do I need to use them before I become pregnant? It seems sooooo expensive.

OPKs give indications of ovulation by showing an increase in LH (not 100% confirmed that an egg has been released though). They do nothing to help you to ovulate. But by letting you know when you are ovulating, you know the optimum time for a bit of nookie.

who knows,.. it seems like just when you think you're going in the right direction, you're lost again.
I tried OPK because with basal body temp, you detect the ovulation just when it's too late, and I used the OPK strips until I saw a positive on the test. The test said to wait 24 hours,..I followed the instructions to the letter, and I have my period as we speak, so it didn't work.
I don't know what does anymore!
Anyhow, I think I will use the test one more time. I had ordered online like 25 strips, because I can't tell how long the cycle would be so you might want to do that if you ran out of strips early.
Good luck,... we all need it!

hi,
we started using OPKs because the 'guessowrk' was lousy and I was hopeless on the BBT monitoring. After 3 attempts using the OPKs I am now pregnant. I found them extremely useful because I just couldn't tell when I was ovulating, if I ws even ovulating at all! And yes, the first time I had to use more than one pack just to figure out which day I was ovulating, and the following two months I didn't need to use the whole packs.
Yes they are expensive and if you can buy cheaper ones on line then i would definitely do so. But I myself would vouch for them.
PS the OPK I use say that when you detect the blue line then do the BD within the next 24 hrs. I think waiting 24 hrs might actually be too late?

Well, I've used OPKs in my last 3 cycles and they all gave me "positive" results which is really reassuring. I'm quite regular. However I'm still not pregnant yet.
After spending about HK$1800 in OPKs (I still have two unused packs), I think I'm gonna stop buying them. I've realised that I'm so regular that the day I ovulate is so predictable. The ovulation kits are really good though, eliminates all guesswork.
I also use the one that requires BD immediately with ovulation expected 24-36 hours later.

Well, at least you know you're ovulating, and more importantly exactly when, which was my worry and hence my reason for using them!
I also took Robitussin to help with the CM...dont' know if it helped or not...
Good luck! Hope it works the next time for you!
